Re: Marvel FDNY: Clem & Declan
Insecurity fit wrong, that was for damn sure, and Clementine was trying real hard to unwind it from her bones. It was easier now, older again, and she thought back on some of the crying she'd done young with something like shame, but not quite. Shame wasn't something built into their family. They killed and bedded and machinated, and all without feeling sorry for it any. She still credited Lore's influence for feeling bad about anything at all, but that was edging off more and more the longer she was away from the folks that had reminded her of it in the first place. Graham and Shane, and it wasn't like it had been before. She'd thought maybe it could be, but she was wrong, and that was surprisingly fine.
She led him back into the bunk, which was exactly like it sounded. Bunk beds lining brick walls, and they all worked three-nights on in rotation. This was hers, and she had a day left before she got to go on home, where the bed was real expensive and soft, and where there wasn't any snoring in her ear. Truth was, she didn't mind it here much.
His question about her husband made her turn, and she smoothed fabric over his belly and laughed to herself some. "Honey, I took this up to get away from home when I was just eighteen. Went to school for it just on account of momma and daddy hating the thought of me getting vomit on my pretty little hands." Hands which she lifted and fingers which she spread real wide and shook some. "I ain't ever married. Don't need the money, and don't need a husband telling me what I ought to be doing," she said plain, sitting herself on a low bunk and patting the spot beside her. "Had myself a baby last year, but gave her up. Chloe, and Jude were here, but they're gone now. Just Alexander left out there somewhere." Alexander was one of those subjects that was hard for her, but it didn't show any. "We don't talk. You know how we Murphys are at warring."
She smiled when he said he had a few places. "I'm in Union Square. Just figured we come all the way out here to Hell's Kitchen for risking our lives. When you'd get into working?" And then she hugged him impulsive, before running fingers through the silver that was starting to shine at his temples; so much damn time gone. "I'm real glad you're here, even though I expect you'll still act like I got lice that's catching."
