Re: Courtyard - Clem/Graham
Never did. That's plenty true. [There was teasing there; a world of it. Blue eyes bright with it, and she felt better than she had since this whole undead thing started.] Might need to work on that some. [But, truth was, she was starting to like him just how he was, infuriating thing of a man, and she didn't really have a lick of desire to change him. Maybe getting him to shave more often, that would be real fine, smiling more often, that too. But not other things. She was a lot louder than her sister, a whole lot more forceful, plenty vain, but she took after her in that she didn't feel the need to change folks. If you liked someone, you liked them whole, plain as that.
But then he went and got wistful, and she wasn't sure whether to laugh at him, or whether to smile and think he was sweet.] You always were a lovesick thing. I never did follow a boy around and make eyes at him. Never did sit by the phone waiting for a boy to want to come courting. I liked them fine, but I wouldn't notice if they didn't come round for days. Not all of us are made for loving, sugar. [His wistful tone made her feel like she should say something more, something less throwaway.] Maybe some day it'll come round, but I don't think I'll die from it if it don't. [She gave him a look that turned curious.] You ever been with a woman you didn't love?
[It didn't take long before her balance was shot right off to hell, too dizzy for standing and she was going to drag him down with her if he didn't let go. In that blur of twirling, she caught that smile of his, and it made her feel like she'd accomplished something. It was plain silly, thinking that about a man's smile, but she was too lazy to bother fighting things or hiding them deep. That kind of repression, it took much work, especially for a woman that wasn't scared of nearly a thing.
