Re: Bar Log: Penny and Cris
Cris took a long, draining drink of his beer as Penny talked, listening with his eyes glued to the scraped up table. He smiled a stretch when she said it'd be boring without watching his ass, but he knew there was more to it. He hadn't wanted to come in and do it without her, either. Lou was a fine partner, but you get used to someone you've worked with for years, a friend, a person you trust with anything, and any shake up from that's hard. But, he hadn't had much of a choice. He had his daughter to think about and there was no Penny in sight. If they could go back to being partners here, ...assuming Cris got reinstated to SVU, it'd be perfect. He didn't think Lou was coming back anytime soon, anyway, if the guy would ever forgive him for sending his sister in with a pack of rabid criminals.
There was a shadow of a frown, but it passed, as Cris' thoughts meandered until he realized he'd been sitting in silence, beer heady on his tongue and eyes still stuck on the tabletop. He cleared his throat, flicking his gaze to Penny.
"I came home—from a real rough day—and this guy was at my front gate with a camera. And the first thing outta his mouth is somethin' about my daughter. I... I dunno. I snapped." There shoulda been more remorse in his voice, and Cris knew that. But he didn't try to inject any. He finished the little bit of his beer that was left and shrugged again.
