Zatanna waited, the shadow behind the curtain as Eddie's voice echoed in the still, silent room that was backstage, the strings above the puppets that wavered in shadow-play. Long enough, and a long, even breath that slowed the heart, stilled the shockwave of electricity that skittered up her spine. Even the best performers learned to share a stage.
Long enough, but not long enough to strike suspicion into a doubtful, cunning beast. Zatanna swept into the room where the dead body was in locomotion before the edge of the circle, and Louis's eyes were dead gold coins. Fury, and she summoned it easily, the heat in blood, the crackle of magic like static through the air.
"Edward!" It was thunderous, betrayal and anger twined in symmetry. "What is it you are doing?"
