"Both, if you have them," he said, with a smile that reached his eyes this time, crinkling a little. Tea and something sweet sounded heavenly. The food at Shadowcrest was nothing to complain about, he was well taken care of. But it wasn't the same as something from home.
He paused, then reached out and squeezed her hand again. "I'm glad things can be...as they were, again," he said. It wasn't quite an apology for the things that had come between them when the Murphys still lurked around, but it was an acknowledgement that things could have turned terribly between them, gone the way his relationship with Iris had, and they hadn't. And he still had a sister, on the other side of things, and that was something to be grateful for.
