Re: AMNH: Gwen & Pete
Once he found out about the Carnage patrolling, if he did, there would be lecturing. Definitely. Peter was usually the one being lectured but he could dish it out sometimes, too. At the moment, he figured Gwen was going to be involved, like it or not, and as crazy as it drove him he had to admit that her stubborn determination was one of the things he liked about her. Even when she was in distress, she was no damsel. And he probably couldn't have taken down Electro without her. It was a double edged sword.
As dumb as it might sound, he was acutely aware of her fingers against his neck. He kind of hoped she didn't move her hand, and maybe she'd forgotten about MJ for a minute, but he wasn't thinking about her at all. No redhead, no Jason, just this and them and the way she smiled when she called him a dork. "It's something I was born with," he joked, and it really wasn't all that hard to laugh at himself. He did it all the time. He ducked his head and laughed, quiet, when she said that terrible was the right word, and he registered the song change in a vague sort of way. He was more focused on things like how her fingers climbed on the side of his neck, and how close she was. His gaze dropped to her mouth when she licked her lips, and it was with a deeper flush that he caught himself and looked back up, right, eye contact, but that didn't make it much easier.
He grinned when she said it was warm, the butterflies in his stomach going nuts at her husky tone. He let go of her hand, then, fingers sliding against hers as he let his drop to her waist. It was like high school dances, the slow sway and nothing fancy, but he didn't mind. "Ectothermic. Right." He thought her head-against-his-shoulder headdesk was kind of (okay, a lot) cute, and his smile turned fond. "Maybe I'm warm because of you," he said, without thinking, and immediately wished he could take the words back because that was definitely on the top ten list of lamest things he'd ever said-- and he said a lot of lame things.
But instead of stuttering and stammering and making it worse, he made himself shut up. At least for a few seconds. "It's not a bad thing, is it? Being warm." So smooth.
