Re: AMNH: Gwen & Pete
Gwen knew no one wanted her to go after Carnage on her own. In fact, most everyone wanted her to stay as far away from the symbiote as possible, and she understood the logic in that desire. But the problem with certainty in one's imminent death was that being careful kind of went out the window. Add her feelings of responsibility to that, and it meant that the chances of her not being involved in Carnage's apprehension were nil. The last time, she hadn't actively pursued him; she'd left that to Gotham's heroes, and Carnage found her anyway. She didn't actually expect Peter to be involved. The last Peter hadn't considered the symbiote his problem, and she kind of thought this Peter wasn't really interested in getting involved with the things she did, which was a direct result of stuff in Silent Hill. But it was totally cool, because she didn't need to be saved. Maybe back when she didn't have powers, but if she got her stuff as good as him, then there was no reason he could take Carnage on any better than she could.
"And now you're calling me a liar? My feelings are totally wrecked, Peter," she insisted, and maybe there was a little overkill in her emphasis, because it didn't even sound genuine to her own ears. But she was busy trying not to laugh at the way he'd crossed his arms over his chest, like he was a big guy making a point, and she didn't notice her own speed in grabbing his suit as a result. But the suit was discarded a second later, and he was insisting she didn't want to tell anyone about her deep and meaningful conversations with dino bones. "I'll tell them all I learned from the dino-bone chatting pro - Peter Parker from Queens."
And then he managed to execute that web-grab-spin thing perfectly, and he grinned down at her, and she had to begrudgingly admit that he was really good at that. Her smile when he said I still got it, that was fond, and she didn't contradict him for once. "Yeah." Almost a whisper, which, whoa, she hadn't meant to say aloud. But she could recover quick, and she blamed the slip on the effort she was putting into being casual, not staring. Friends, right? Back on-track, Stacy, and she glanced over her shoulder at the bear. "He's taller than you," she said, as if she was determining the bear's advantages when it came to being a dance partner. Her fingers on Peter's shoulders flexed, and then she took a small step back, because she was right up against him, which wasn't necessary for cheesy 80s dancing, right? "Okay, hero, show me your super impressive moves." She almost managed to make it sound challenging. Mostly, she just sounded a little flustered.
