log: bats & joker Who: The Bat & the Clown What: The Bat gives chase, as bats do. Where: Amusement Mile. When: Immediately following this. Warnings/Rating: TBD
As difficult as it had been for him (and it had been very difficult, thank you), the Bat stayed back. He settled into the role of observer and gave Selina and the Joker their hour. Not that he expected them to chat on a Ferris wheel for that long, oh no, but his word was his word and he wouldn't intervene unless necessary. He knew she was trying to prove a point. Stephanie and Jason were on standby for backup, which he might or might not need-- it was too soon to tell.
And so, he had waited. Watched. Listened.
When the music changed, he noticed. The lights on the ride went out, and the Bat had already sprung into action, gliding down from his perch and hitting the ground just as the explosion occurred. He raised an arm, trying to get a look at where Selina had gone, where the Joker was, amidst smoke and flame, but he didn't pursue the clown right away. No, first he had to make sure Selina was alright. And he did. Minor injuries, nothing that would kill her; the Bat knew if he took her back to the Cave for medical attention, the Joker would get away. He couldn't allow that. Instinct demanded that he go after him, that he stop him.
It was predictable. He knew that, but it was inevitable, wasn't it? Hardwired into him. Selina went her way, and he went his.
The funhouse loomed ahead as the Bat approached, a shadow against the backdrop of the ruined Ferris wheel that moved stealthily through the grass. There was no time to wait. A message was transcribed, prepared to send should he run into trouble he couldn't handle; he didn't think it would come to that, but better safe than sorry.
His path was laid before him. And so, he went forward.
