"Don't push me Ron!", shouted Harry, as Ron narrowed his eyes and shoved Harry into the nearby wall. "Fuckin' git!" screamed Harry as the mild argument escalated into an all out brawl in Harry's and Ron's new flat. Neither really remembered how the argument had begun, except that Hermione's and Cho's names were mentioned and mild insults became fighting words. Harry and Ron had been fighting a lot lately. Neither Harry nor Ron could really say what the arguments were about, really or where the anger came from. Ron had mentioned how Hermione was a better girlfriend than Cho was and what started out as a silly jibe became an all out fighting match between the two as Harry and Ron made physical contact. Both fell to the floor as Ron brought his fist down on Harry's jaw and the two rolled around like wild animals on the floor. Of the two, Ron was actually stronger in upper body strength. Ron held Harry down and cursed a few choice words and suddenly the word flew from Ron's mouth before he could stop it. "Mudblood!" Harry's eyes widened and his breath caught in his throat. Ron expected Harry to attack in rage. Instead, Harry did something quite unexpected,he started crying. Ron's heart broke at the sight of Harry's tears. "I'm sorry, Harry", Ron gasped in anguish. Harry just kept crying. He then started to sob and Ron started pleading with him to stop as he took Harry in his arms and started crying with him. For nearly ten minutes both boys cried and hugged one another while crouched on the floor. Finally, Harry spoke. "What's happened to us, Ron? We used to be best friends. What's happened to us?" "I don't know, Harry", Ron said with tears in his voice. "What the hell are we fighting about anyway?", Harry sobbed. "I can't really remember",said Ron. Both men laughed sadly and sat up a little. Ron held Harry in his arms and both stared into the others eyes a little longer than necessary. "Harry, are you in love with Cho?" Ron suddenly blurted out. Harry hesitated before answering. "I care about her a lot." Ron nodded slightly. "Are you in love with Hermione?" Harry countered. Ron kept quiet so long Harry thought he would never answer. "I thought I was." Ron finally admitted, as much to himself as to Harry. "But.." Harry prodded. "But now I'm not really sure, Harry." Ron said sitting up and talking to Harry in a very serious tone. "I mean, look at us, Harry. We've known each other since we were eleven.. but now things have changed... haven't they?" "Voldemort's dead", Harry answered. "We both graduated as full wizards. We both have girlfriends now", Harry spoke earnestly,..."We should be happy, shouldn't we, Ron?...Why aren't we happy?" Ron held his silence for a long time but wouldn't seem to let go of Harry's hand. Harry, who had been looking at the floor more than at Ron, finally looked over at Ron, curious as to what he was actually thinking. Ron just kept staring at Him. Harry finally couldn't stand it anymore."What are you thinking, Ron? Why are you staring at me like that?" Ron pushed Harry down, slowly, never letting his eyes leave Harry's. Harry couldn't speak as Ron looked at him in a way Harry had sworn he'd seen before. couldn't mention the funny feeling he got in the pit of his belly when he did. |
