It's better than she expected, being married to Stiles. Of all the people in the world she could've been forced to marry, she's glad it was someone like him. She almost told him that this morning over breakfast but caught herself and reconsidered her phrasing, which is something that never came naturally to her but she's been working on nonetheless. There is one thing she'd like to change about their relationship so far, however. How much longer are they going to wait and get to know each other before they actually get intimate? She's not planning on waiting any longer to find out.

She's glad she was able to snag that bottle of vodka last night to help set the mood for tonight. She prepares a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs while he's out and sets the table with the shot glasses Liv gifted them for their wedding and filled them with the drink. When the mood is set, candles on the table, her hair pinned into an artfully messy bun for a beautiful without trying look and compliments the look with a dress she'll swear she just threw on without a thought.

She tries not to chew the lipstick off of her lips as she waits for him. What if he feels like this is forced and he's not ready. What if she is forcing this and neither of them are?

"Shite" She swears under her breath and rises from the table so she can blow out the candles because now this all seems ridiculous. It will happen when it happens. They didn't need all this. She blows out the first one and is about to move on to the second before she hears someone opening the door.

Things are becoming more comfortable with Minnie. It's taking time, but they're less skittish around each other and he feels a little less like he's got a glorified roommate. She doesn't feel like a wife, yet, but it's because he's still getting to know her, he tells himself. She does feel like a new girlfriend, though, and that's something with which he can sort of identify, so he latches onto it.

They still haven't consummated. He's interested, but he doesn't want to push and sometimes he isn't sure if his interest is the same as readiness. So he just ponders it, rubs it out in the shower when he's feeling particularly needy, and keeps his mouth shut.

When he gets home from work — and, by the way, if he'd known his dad was going to make him pay the rent on the apartment, he would've paid more attention when they were looking at apartments, just saying — the first thing he notices is the smell when he opens the door. "...Min? Did you cook?" She doesn't cook. They don't cook. "It smells awesome in here..."

He moves the rest of the way into the apartment after tossing his keys into the little bowl on the little table next to the door and he stops short just outside the kitchen. ...oh God...

Stiles tries to think what time he told her he'd be home, if he misspoke and said he'd be home later than it actually was. This isn't a thing they do. This is so not them. There's candles and food and are those shot glasses? She's wearing a dress. Oh...God. His immediate thought is that she's preparing for a date that's supposed to happen behind his back and he can't decide if he's upset about that because she's his wife or because he didn't think of it first. It might be a little bit of both. "...hey..."

She straightens up when he enters, unsure of whether or not she should blow out the second candle or just leave it. "Stiles." She smiles awkwardly. "I made us dinner. Obviously." She mutters and quickly picks up one of the shot glasses to hand to him. "I don't know if it's any good, but if we're going to be adults we should learn how to -- do adult things." Now she's the one rambling.

She gestures to one of the seats and tucks a hair behind her ear. "I'll just--" She blows out the other candle and takes the untouched shot glass on the table before grabbing for the bottle to refill it.

"Nothing quite spells romance like vodka shots." She jokes dryly to herself.

Stiles looks back at her when she straightens and her response feels a little awkward. He takes the shot glass and clears his throat. Did she make dinner for them or did he come home earlier than she'd thought he would?

"You didn't have to make dinner," he points out and tries to sound more pleasantly surprised than worried that it isn't actually his dinner. "You look nice," he adds.

"I wanted to." She smiles gently. "You were out working and I thought you'd be hungry." While she's waiting to hear back from her potential employers, the least she can do is take care of some household chores while he's gone.

"I found this old thing crumpled in the corner of my luggage and just threw it on." She waves dismissively which seems like a silly lie to tell your husband but it still very much feels like a first date and lies like that are admissible in her eyes. "But thank you. You look good too." She wishes she hadn't added that last part the moment she says it. She saw him leave like that this morning.

She sighs. "Sorry, this is coming out so awkward and I was trying to be romantic. I think I'm actually smoother when I'm drunk."

Something in the room shifts when she sighs and he looks a little bit surprised when he catches what she said. Stiles and Mini are getting along, but they're mostly sort of...tiptoeing around each other physically. Beyond the fact that they spoon at night — and actually, being big spoon isn't so bad when the girl is smaller than he is and not the same approximate size — they don't really touch each other. He hasn't kissed her since the wedding ceremony.

But she says she's trying to be romantic and he can see that, he just...assumed it wasn't for him. Apparently, it is. Stiles finally crosses the kitchen's threshold and moves to her, leaning down to give her a chaste kiss and brushing his fingertips at her hairline to push a few stray strands out of her face.

"You're doing fine, Mini," he promises.

It's like an anchor is removed from the pit of her stomach when he kisses her. More than its reassuring nature, it feels so natural to her it's surprising. She gives him a coy smile. "Good. Because plan B was to start sneezing."

She slides her hand into his. She still maintains to herself that the candles were probably overkill for a man who'd told her that she looked better in stained night clothes than in a formal gown, but maybe she was trying too hard to make something complex out of something that's really simple.

"Everything happened so suddenly with us, I know it's been strange but I like you, Stiles. I really want to make everything nice for us."

In spite of himself, Stiles starts laughing at her response. "Well, I do love me a Minnie Mouse sneeze every now and again, they're goddamned adorable," he jokes back. He gives her hand a little squeeze when he feels her take his.

A small, but warm and genuine smile tugs at the corners of his mouth. "I know, it's...weird. I mean, you know. That this all happened as fast as it did, but it's not bad? I thought it would be bad, like I was one hundred percent sure this would be a waking nightmare, but I like you, too. A lot, actually. And I want nice things for us, too, you know? Like...I want us to feel like...we're married, I guess, or at least in a relationship. Because, for a while, it just kind of felt like roommates, you know what I mean? And that's fine, but...I don't really want that."

She laughs and covers her face with her free hand. Stiles's gentle teasing about her squeaky sneeze is way different than Nick's ribbing had been. She's not embarrassed when Stiles does it, not in a bad way anyway. "Oh you'll love allergy season then." She shakes her head.

"I was scared too" She admits. She was scared for so many reasons that stretched far beyond being alone in a strange country with a man she didn't know. Trust didn't come easily to her. She'd been abandoned so many times by people she let in. No one ever stuck around and all she could ever do was pretend that the betrayal didn't hurt and move on. But he wasn't like the boys she knew at home.

"I still am. But I believe you." She wraps her arms around his neck. "And I definitely don't want to be your roommate. We're married. We might as well take advantage of that, right?" She bites her lip. "I'm ready for that."

Mini covers her face and Stiles can't help laughing a little more. He likes her mannerisms. She's more girly than Malia had been. Mini wears makeup and the kind of clothes Lydia Martin would have been seen in. Sometimes when he teases her, she blushes and smiles; she doesn't punch him in the arm without realizing it'll hurt because she's stronger than him. Stiles isn't sure when, along the way, the comparisons he secretly made between Mini and Malia started to swing in Mini's favor, but they have. "Can't stand the wait," he jokes back.

His laughter falls away, though and his expression settles into something a little more serious. "You want—" he starts and stops. He doesn't want to assume, but on the other hand he isn't sure whether they should yet. They're married, of course they should, but...

"Are you sure...?" he asks. Because the thing is...he's not. He wants to, he really does; has wanted to since he walked in on her getting dressed after a shower when he'd come home on lunch break unannounced and assumed she'd been out job searching. But just because he wants to doesn't mean they should. If it's not just right, then what if she never wants to try again? Or worse, what if they're not compatible in bed? Are they supposed to spend the rest of their lives having bad sex or no sex? Forever?

And there it is again. Whether he's asking if she's sure because he genuinely cares if she's ready or if he's asking because he's not sure if they should take the step just yet; he's actually asking her how she feels about it. That's never happened before. Nick fucked Liv because after all the pressure he was putting on her to give him her virginity, she was still taking her time. When she finally gave herself to him, he didn't care that she still wasn't ready. That she just wanted him to love her. He did it anyway. Every guy she knew was like that. "You make my bollocks tighten" was a declaration of love in their eyes.

And then there's Stiles. Just now in this moment she's more certain than ever that she's at least ready to try it. She wants him to hold her and show her the gentle side of love making she's only seen in movies or read in novels. And maybe it won't be what she hopes it is. Maybe he'll think of his ex the entire time, but if he thinks he can at least try it too...

She doesn't answer. She just leans in to kiss him instead.

It's not verbal, but the kiss is an answer all the same. Stiles tries to take a mental inventory of the medicine cabinet and counter drawers in the bathroom; do they even have condoms? She's his wife so, are they supposed to? Marriage doesn't change the fact that the scariest STD of them all is pregnancy, right, so...yes. Right?

But he's kissing her back, because he's been wanting to and because she's giving him the opportunity. ...and because this is the closest he's felt with Mini since he met her and that has to be a good thing, doesn't it?

When he parts from her, he leans back just enough to be able to see her whole face in focus. "...so...no then?" he asks with feigned disappointment before the smile cracks his face.

Condoms are the furthest thing on Mini's mind. She's never been the most careful person in the world, even if among her friends she's the least likely to go wild at a party. That's not to say she hasn't gone wild and dabbled in recreational drugs like cocaine, weed, and pills; but she doesn't think she needs it to have a good time. Stiles doesn't seem like the type to party either with his dad being a cop and all. She suspects he's the more cautious of the two of them so if anyone was to suggest responsible sex, it would have to be him.

She laughs at his stupid joke and scowls at him. "Loser." She rolls her eyes. "Are you going to carry me over the threshold now?" Better late than never.

Stiles can't help laughing again before kissing her one more time. Please, God, let there be condoms in the bathroom, he thinks and then he scoops Mini into his arms — surprisingly easily, considering his own slight form — and he looks down at her, standing there in the middle of the kitchen with her cradled in his arms.

"Is this a thing we're going to do every time we have sex or just the first time? I feel like I should, like, mentally prepare myself for the future if this is a thing," he teases before he finally starts toward the bedroom.

His adrenaline is through the roof and he's all but shaking with anticipation because, okay, Stiles hasn't had a lot of sex, but he does know that he likes it.

She shrieks in excitement as he lifts her up and lolls her head back as she pretends to consider his question. "I could get used to the royal treatment." She leans her head against his collar until they've reached the bedroom.

This isn't how she planned the night to go. She expected them to eat spaghetti and get drunk. He'd flop onto the bed and she'd change into something appealing and seduce him... sometimes things have a way of working out even better than she planned.

When he sets her down she kicks off her shoes. Also not the sexiest thing she could've done, but she gets the feeling that she doesn't need to be a sultry temptress to excite Stiles. He seems to be interested enough with her being just as she is.

"Yeah, well..." Stiles says with a grin as he puts her down on the bed, "don't get too used to it." And...now they're in the bedroom. "One sec?" he asks, holding up a finger to her in the universal gesture to wait.

Stiles turns from her and goes into the bathroom, without it ever occurring to him that interrupting the light balance they have going right now by excusing himself abruptly could have any negative impacts. He's got his mind on one thing and it's not making a baby tonight, so he's rifling through drawers and cabinets and when, miracle of miracles, he finds a box with two left in it, he lets out a small whoop of triumph before heading back into the bedroom where Mini is waiting. He holds up the box for her to see. "All circuits are go for launch," he says, tossing it onto the table beside their bed and only belatedly realizing how goddamned nerdy that was. "...I mean...never mind."

Stiles crosses the rest of the room and climbs onto the bed beside her, hesitating a little before reaching for her, unsure of whether he'd killed the moment.

Once he's gone she all but tumbles out of bed to grab the mirror in her handbag and make sure everything about her face is still in order. No lipstick on her teeth, no mascara running from all the laughter, nothing weird sticking out of her nose. Once she gives herself a nod of approval she stuffs the mirror back in her bag and hurries onto the bed just in time before he bursts back into the room.

He beats her to the punch when he says his cheesy line. She almost said "ready for liftoff". She's glad he said the dorky thing before she had the chance. She pulls him closer and kisses him deeply.

They're really doing this. This is a thing they're doing. Stiles and his wife are finally going to act like a pair of newlyweds. ...they are acting like a pair of newlyweds, he realizes, when she pulls him in to kiss her again.

His hands make their way to her and he settles on on her waist while the other moves into her hair. They've finally made it to that place where they're comfortable enough with each other and their situation that this isn't terrifying or nerve-wracking — at least, it isn't for Stiles — but instead, it's fun and exciting. He pulls back to take a breath and when he exhales it, he breathes out, "you're so beautiful, Min..." Because she is and it only just now is occurring to him that he's never...actually said it to her.

It's a compliment she's heard many times before from friends, family, and even strangers, but not him. The fact that he is saying it now right means to her that he's not going to close his eyes at one point and start imagining he's actually with someone he knows better and cares about more. He's seeing her. He wants to be with her. It means more to her than she thought it would.

She laughs happily and brushes her hand over his hair. "And I'm all yours." Not that she had planned to cheat on him or anything, she just didn't actually mean her vows when she was saying them before. Her heart wasn't in them, she'd just gone along with it because she was supposed to. As she peels off her shirt and moves her hands to yank off his there's one thing she is sure of: she wants to give herself to him completely. It feels safe.

Her words carry a lot more weight, Stiles thinks, than Mini probably realizes. He's never really felt like anyone was all his, not even Malia, whose free spirit left him in a constant state of worry and a never-ending fear that if he blinked, she'd be gone. She's taking their clothes off and Stiles is too busy being enthralled with the fact that this is even a thing that's really about to happen between the two of them right now that he can't really keep up with helping her.

...and then, just like that, he catches up. It's like hearing his shirt hit the floor with that distinctive flumph that can only come from clothing hitting the floor after being discarded unceremoniously sort of...wakes him up. His fingers move to Mini's back and he fumbles once, twice, three times before the fourth is the charm and he manages to unhook her bra with hands that are shaking not in fear but in excited anticipation.

Her hands were shaking too but somehow she'd managed to remove his belt with steady fingers. Now nearly an hour later she lay with her head, beaded with sweat, on his shoulder while her now steady fingers played with his.

So this is what love making was supposed to feel like. Every other time she'd had it, everything she'd done had been a calculated move to stop Nick from cheating on her with her friend behind her back.

"I didn't know it could be like this." She admits sheepishly. She doesn't want to inflate his ego or anything, but it is the truth.

When all is said and done, Stiles feels sated and, for once, also comfortable. Malia tended to leave angry claw marks down his back, most of which had gone away with little scarring, although there were a few still left behind. Mini doesn't, obviously.

He turns his face to look at her, shifting slightly beneath her so that he can wrap an arm around her middle to hold her closer. "...I know, me either..." he confesses, giving her a small smile. "Man, what the hell were we waiting for?" he jokes, huffing a soft laugh.

She knows it's rhetorical but she can't help herself. "For this." She leans up presses a kiss to his jaw. "So it could be perfect." And it really was, at least as far as she knows. There isn't much to go on but to her, this is perfect.

She settles back against his chest. "Stiles... do you think..." She trails off, not sure if she wants the answer to the question that's been burning a hole in her mind since they exchanged rings. "We can ever be in love? Really love, even if we skipped a few steps at the start?"

Stiles smooths down Mini's hair at the back of her head, smiling back down at her response. "Yeah...I guess so, huh?"

At her question, Stiles takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. It's a good question and he honestly...doesn't know how to answer it at first. So, he waits a moment to try to formulate a response. "...yeah, I think eventually we could. Whether or not we will is a whole other question, but could we? Yeah, I think so. ...don't you?" he asks, lifting his eyebrows a little.

She doesn't answer at first. She's not entirely convinced that she hasn't started falling for him already as stupid as it sounds. She always falls in love too quickly, she doesn't know what to do about it. It should feel safer, falling for your own husband but it's just as scary if not more with Stiles.

"I think so." She finally says. "I really like you. You're so -- kind to me. I don't see how I couldn't." She looks up at him again. "Someday."

It makes Stiles feel better knowing that they're on the same page with that idea, that maybe they could fall in love later down the line. Right now, he's still getting to know her. He's still busy learning what kinds of foods she likes and that she hates it when he forgets to use the bathmat at the edge of the tub when he's getting in and out of the shower. He's still getting used to the idea that there will be this person — this beautiful, sweet girl — in his life forever. That he has no idea whether she wants kids someday — he does — or if she wants to stay in California with him or whether she'd rather they live somewhere else so they're starting a new life together in a new place.

Stiles is still trying to wrap his head around the concept of a wife when she still feels like a new girlfriend, but he likes to think that once he's gotten past all of that, then he can really focus on her and not just the idea of her. Then, he thinks, it'll be hard not to fall in love with her.

"I really like you, too," he replies, reaching down to brush a piece of hair stuck to her sweaty forehead back out of her face. "I feel like that, too. I really do."

That's good enough for her. She bites back a smile and kisses his cheek. "So...how many more condoms are there left in that box?" Safe sex is going to be a thing with him, she sees. Surprisingly, she doesn't assume that it's because he plans on sleeping around or that he thinks she may cheat on him. They're just barely married and neither of them are looking at starting a family right this moment, she hopes. Someday, just -- not today. They should at least be legal to buy a drink in this country first.

Stiles laughs again and presses a kiss to her lips, letting it linger a little. This is nice. He likes how this feels; having her in his arms and being silly even though they're naked in bed together. Maybe that's what a marriage is: being completely comfortable with someone, even when you're at your most vulnerable.

"Just one," he says apologetically. "But we can buy more, that's no biggie."

She crawls over him to grab the last one from the box on their nightstand. She grins and shakes the wrapper. "Tomorrow? We're definitely buying more. Now are we doing this before or after we eat the supper I slaved over all night.?" Spaghetti and meatballs is harder work than it looks.

"My vote's for before in case you're interested."

Crap! Dinner. She totally made him dinner and by now it's cold and gross. They're going to have to like...nuke it, aren't they?

"My vote is for before bed so we can just fall asleep exactly how we are right now," he says, "but that's negotiable. I could always go out to teh store tonight after we eat..."
