Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

take you in

Everybody needs a little help once in a while. Offering them a ride to a shelter is one thing, but if you really want to help, why not offer to take them in until they can get back on their own two feet?

How to Play:
  1. Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences (needs shelter or can give shelter).
  2. Tag Others.
  3. Be awesome to each other.
  4. Have fun!

You can use a RNG to help pick, or choose your favorite.

1. Kicked Out: Your friend just got kicked out of their living space and you know they've got nowhere else to go. Help them out!
2. Recurring: You pass by this person almost every day on your way out. Maybe you give them some money every day, maybe you give when you can, or maybe you don't give at all. Either way, seeing them so often finally pulled on your heartstrings enough to open your door and welcome them in.
3. Baby, It's Cold Outside: The snow storm of the century is heading your way. Come on, you can't let them freeze to death, even if it's just for a night.
4. GDI A Kid: Usually you'd keep to yourself, but you can see that this person has a child or is pregnant. How can you not help, you're not a monster.
5. Trade Off: Listen, they need a place to sleep, you need someone to do the cleaning and you're a pretty awful cook. Mutually beneficial.
6. Familiar Face: You haven't seen them in a while and they sort of fell off the face of the earth. You heard that it was bad, but you didn't know it was this bad, bring them inside!
7. Wildcard: If you don't like any of the prompts, make your own!

Frowning slightly, Lydia shrugs. "It's kind of their job," she points out. "It might take a while, though..." She doesn't appreciate the look he gives her and no, she didn't miss it. Lydia sighs.

"Come on, help me with these and you can use my phone and hang out until they get here, fair deal?"

Was she really inviting a guy she didn't even know into her house? Well, he knew he was a decent guy, he knew he wouldn't try anything. He wouldn't rape, kill, or steal from her. But she couldn't possibly know that, despite how casual she seems to be about it all.

"Okay." He nods. Because what's the alternative? Stay outside, with the snow coming down, and freeze his ass off in the jeep? Because it's already freezing out here, and it's not going to warm up anytime soon.

"Thank you." He moved to take some of the bags from her. It was the least he could do.

Lydia doesn't love the buzzing in her head, but there are times when it comes in handy. Like right now. She isn't getting any warning signs that being a good Samaritan is going to backfire on her. So when the boy nods and agrees, Lydia nods back and smiles, handing some of the bags to him before leading the way up to the front door.

"You're welcome," she chirps as she unlocks the front door and pushes it open. Her little dog immediately greets them with a barrage of noise, barking and claws clicking on the hardwood floor as he scampers excitedly in circles. "Hi, baby! Yes, I'm home. Yes, I'm home. Let me in," she says, grinning, in the playful voice she always uses for Prada when she gets home.

Stiles hands back, giving her a moment to greet the dog. He doesn't like dogs over much, but at least it's a small one. Not that he'd say anything to her about not liking dogs. She had invited him in, after all, and the alternative was to stay out in the cold. No thank you.

He is grateful for her generosity. He has no desire to throw it back in her face by insulting her dog. "He's cute. What's his name?" he asks, even though he doesn't care. "And uh. Mind if I go put these bags in the kitchen?" He doesn't need direction, kitchens are pretty easy to find.

Lydia bends down to scoop up the dog so that the two of them can actually get inside. "Prada," she says and leads him further into her home. "Yeah, please, that would be great. Kitchen's back this way," she adds, heading in that direction so that she can unload her own bags and feed her dog.

Once she's in there, she sets everything down — dog on the floor; bags on the breakfast nook — and points to the wall. "So, there's a phone right there, but I don't...have a phone book, so you'll have to give me a minute to look up a tow company on my computer. My cell phone's about dead." She pauses and wrinkles her nose a little, shaking her head. "I'm Lydia, by the way, I'm sorry."

"Stiles," he tells her. He hauls the bags he's carrying up to the counter. "And take your time. I mean, I'm sure you want me out of here as soon as possible, but I really appreciate the hospitality."

He glances at the bags, but he has no idea where to put anything even if he took it out of the bags. He decides he'll just step back, and let her handle the groceries.

"I mean, I'd probably freeze if I had to sit out there in the jeep."

"Stiles," she repeats and nods, setting it to memory, at least for the time being. "It's no problem. Honestly, I just needed help hauling groceries," she deadpans with a facial shrug that slips into a playful smile. What? He's cute.

She's already moving around the kitchen putting things away as he's stepping back — probably wise, on his part — and she doesn't look at him when she responds, because she's bent, hanging into the fridge to put away some cold cuts. "Oh almost definitely. Seriously, it's no problem, I don't mind. Phone book is...in one of those drawers in the breakfast nook, but I can't remember which one." She pops up again and closes the fridge.

"I'll find it," he tells her. He takes her statement as permission to look in he drawers. He starts with the top drawer, and when it isn't there, he goes on to the next drawer.

"I just hope," he says, and glances up at her. She is beautiful, he can't deny that. How did he get so lucky, to get taken in by a virtual goddess? He shakes his head and continues, "they're able to get out here. I mean, the roads are bad, and it's still coming down. California's not prepared for this kind of storm."

When he offers to look for the phone book, Lydia nods and smiles, taking that as a sign that it's fine if she goes on putting away her groceries. There are a lot more non-perishable items in her haul this time than there normally is, because she's heard that there could be some power outages caused by the storm. Lydia isn't a big fan of dry, cold cereal or soups or Chef Boyardee, but she figures those are safe bets because even if the electricity goes, she's got a gas stove and she can heat them up.

Lydia looks back over her shoulder and lifts an eyebrow. "They'll have to figure it out, they can't just go leaving people stranded all over the place," she points out loftily. She doesn't mean to sound cold, but it is their job, after all... "California should've gotten its shit together, if you ask me. It's not like nobody saw this coming. Exhibit A," she says smugly, opening her pantry wider so that he can see the plethora of canned foods and other non-perishables, not to mention the two cases of bottled water stacked on the floor beneath the shelves.
