soulmate tattoo meme

Maybe you're completely blindsided, or maybe a little part of you knew all along. Maybe they're a complete stranger, maybe they're your best friend or worst enemy, but that doesn't matter anymore. What does matter is that you saw a very familiar mark somewhere on their person, the same mark that you were born with, and you know that can only mean one thing.

How to Play:

This is a soulmate tattoo meme, which means that when two people share a mark, they're meant to be together. Always.
Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences.

PROMPTS.

1. BEST FRIENDS: You've been best friends for a long time, maybe you're entire life, but this is the first time you've seen their mark, whether it be because you walked in on them changing, decided to take a dip in the pool, or you just haven't been paying attention until now.
2. WORST ENEMIES: No, not them. Anyone but them. You're going to do everything in your power to deny that this is even happening at all.
3. REJECTION: Soulmate marks are stupid, it's way too unrealistic to assume that you'll find one other person with the same tattoo when the human population is in the literal billions. So when you do find them, it would make you a bit of a hypocrite to really do anything about it, right? Right. Hopefully they feel the same way.
4. STRANGER: You're just walking to work or hanging out in your favorite coffee shop when you see a familiar mark on a very unfamiliar person. What do you do? Do you chase them down? Be sure not to embarrass yourself! First impressions are everything.
5. PLATONIC: Just because the word 'soulmate' has romantic suggestion to it doesn't mean it has to be romantic. Maybe the person you share your mark with loves you in a different way.
6. UNOBTAINABLE: You're just minding your business, watching the Oscars or MTV or a documentary when you see your mark on the body of a celebrity. Most awkward fan mail ever.
7. WILDCARD: None of the prompts catching your eye? Make your own!

[ Matt hadn't had her mark, the simple infinity symbol that was permanently inked on the skin of her left shoulder blade. No, his had been some douchey tribal design that took up most of his arm, and really that should have been her first sign to run. Not that they didn't match, but that she was dating a douche with a tribal tattoo, whether it had been his choice to get it or not. Still though, they'd dated, because well, he was hot and she was young and dumb. Though neither had been that surprised when it'd fallen apart.

Jules had moved on, literally, left the country and never looked back. Put the idea of a soulmate tattoo out of her mind because work was insane and if she was going to be anyone's soulmate she was going to be her own dammit. Until she saw the exact same mark on Mox's finger one day when the chunky ring he usually wore was off. She was furious. It was Mox. Mox who slept with anything with breasts and made her life a living hell some days. He was her friend, the closest thing she had to a best friend which was so beyond the work lines it wasn't even funny but still. She just never had any thoughts towards him in a soulmate way.

So Jules kept hers hidden, which wasn't that hard. Shut her mouth and didn't say a damn thing.

At least until a cast and crew trip to Mexico. It was tough to keep covered when everyone else was running around in bikinis. She hadn't seen Mox in a while and someone had mentioned some of the guys might have gone jet skiing so Jules took over the cover she wore and headed up to the bar to get a drink. ]

[ Sometimes Mox really enjoys cast and crew trips, but he's not the biggest fan, so far, of Cabo. It's not spring break, so it's not like there are a plethora of hot college girls from whom he can take his pick. In fact, he gets the feeling that it's off-peak season right now, because honestly...it's slim pickings at this resort so far this week.

So, he's in a mood. The rest of the guys all head out on the jet skis and Mox rolls his eyes, heading for the bar instead. Fuck jet skis. Fuck the ocean. Fuck this resort with its severe lack of gorgeous women to choose from. The cast and crew are practically the only ones here. It's total bullshit.

Jules is at the bar when he enters and he sits down beside her, oblivious and tunnel visioned, dropping down dramatically with a groan. ]

Hey, can I get a Jaeger bomb over here, please? [ He looks over at Jules and nudges her shoulder with his own. ] Hey, you know you have to actually be in the sun if you want to get rid of that pasty white thing you've got going on, Casper. [ He smirks at his own joke. ]

[ She visibly stiffens a little when Mox sits down beside her and nudges her shoulder. It'd be more than a little weird to run back to her chair and throw on her cover, she figures she's pretty much hooped. But then Mox doesn't pay nearly as much attention to a girl he's not looking at sleeping with and that might buy her an interaction without him cluing into the small mark on her shoulder blade.

She motions for two when the bartender looks over at them at Mox's order. Drinks. Drinks were good.

She rolls her eyes at his joke, or rather the attempt at a joke. ]

Yeah well it's pasty or lobster, I'll stick with pasty.

[ She raises a brow slightly. ]

No jet skiing?

In spite of the fact that she's always put a lot of stock into the soulmate marks and what they're supposed to mean — mostly because she really loves the idea of it and genuinely wants it to be real — Lynne hasn't ever considered the possibility of finding her match. There's so many people in the world and her mark is so small and simple that she's convinced that there's no way she'll ever find them. That mark could be anywhere on anyone and if it was somewhere more private than her own — which settled against her hairline behind her right ear — then she might never see it. She likes the fantasy of finding her soulmate, but she's not such a naive dreamer that she believes she ever will.

So when she sees it while watching the spot on the news about Manhattan's latest destruction the previous day, from the safety of her apartment in Brooklyn, she's not really sure she's actually seen it. She pauses the DVR, rewinds, replays; goes through the process several times before finally being able to pause it on just the right frame and she moves closer to the television.

There it is, right there on the television screen, peeking through the torn and bloodied uniform of Captain goddamned America on his side. ...and her heart sinks, because there's no way. There's just no way. How is she supposed to be with her soulmate if he's Captain America?!

There's supposed to be a press conference in front of Avengers Tower this afternoon to reassure the city that, once again, they are safe and the threat has passed, so she hops on the subway and goes. It's worth a shot, isn't it? And if she can't reach him today, then she'll take it as a sign and just give up on the dream and move on forever.

Lynne manages to get near the front of the crowd, but she can't get right up there. It's good enough, she decides, because maybe the universe will just...will them closer. Captain Steve Rogers is giving his speech and when he finishes, he opens for questions. Her hand goes up into the air just like everyone else's in the two rows in front of her and she doubts she'll ever get picked, but he chooses people one at a time and one by one, hands go down.

Please, please don't let this be a sign that I'm an idiot...

Steve hates the seemingly endless press conferences that have somehow become a part of his life. It's not that he's against the public knowing what had happened, or that they were safe, but he was never one to talk a lot about himself, which is what it always ended up feeling like. Having to talk about himself. Or justify the team's existence, or worse, put up with questions or comments about their personal lives which he was firmly in camp no one's damn business but their own. Still though, one would be hard pressed to know how much it grated on his nerves as he calmly answered questions and talked with the gathered press and people. Pepper had, after all, taught him well.

He glances over at Lynn and her hand in the air and nods a little. He has no idea that she's the woman who shares his mark - a mark he'd quite honestly just sort of shoved out of his thoughts for so many reasons - he just assumes she's another reporter of some sorts.

"Ma'am?" he asks politely with that most of the team has designated his Captain America smile - nice and polite, warm and approachable, but not exactly the one he gives to the people he knows.

Her hand stays in the air, but she's looking around watching as the ones surrounding her seem to come back down. Lynne starts to hop in place to be noticed, because there's still a sea of hands toward the middle and left side of the crowd.

Then, he actually calls on her and Lynne stares back at him through the crowd that parts a little so that he can see her and her stomach feels like it's fallen to her feet. For a second, she just stares back at him, jaw flapping awkwardly before she finally realizes that everyone — including Captain Steve Rogers, her soulmate — is staring at her.

"Oh! Um...do you..." she stops and pauses to collect her thoughts and formulate a more competent question. "Sorry. Off-topic." Although, it isn't entirely, since half of the reporters that have been asking him questions seem to revolve around their personal lives more than the recent events. Lynne clears her throat. "I just...was wondering, what are your thoughts on Soulmate Marks?"

He smiles a little as she starts and then stops her question. Her actual question though does throw him a little and he stiffens somewhat at it, but recovers quickly. The truth was Steve didn't think much of it. There had been some part of him in his younger years that liked the idea of it, one person out there meant just for him - but he always figured he'd be no good for them anyways so never let himself get too attached to the idea. Then there was the serum and a war and Peggy and not enough time to even approach her if some mark on her body matched the one on his before he crashed a plane into the ice. When he woke it had always seemed so stupid to ask her then. What was the point. If they were or they weren't, whatever life they could have had wasn't in the cards. Mostly Steve assumes the person who had the same mark as him was either long dead, or with one foot in the door. It was a depressing thought, but he skipped several decades, he wasn't sure if whatever force at work when it came to soulmate marks kept that in mind.

That's not the answer he can give of course. Not in front of a group of reporters who suddenly were so interested in his answer. So he steadies his resolve again and offers Lynne a small shrug with a bit of sheepish smile. "Not too sure, really, never much gave it too much thought," it wasn't a full out lie. Outside his sleepless nights when too many things weighed on his brain he didn't really have the time to think about it too much.

"I know we all have them, but I guess it always seemed a little unrealistic to me that everyone would find the person who had theirs." Even if you did, what then? Did it really magically make everything okay. It seemed to easy somehow.

The answer that he gives feels like a punch in the stomach. It sounds rehearsed and she supposes that she can't really fault him for that considering the forum in which she's asking. But it still hurts, because it's so neutral and almost unwittingly cold. She lets out a soft sigh, chewing on her bottom lip and nods, eyes downcast, assuming that's the end of his answer and that's her sign; let it go.

But then he gives an addendum to it and she looks up again. The crowd is already uproaring with more questions but she screams to make herself heard. "WAIT!" The crowd takes a moment to settle, the quiet rippling outward from the epicenter that is Lynne and when it's quiet again, she presses her lips together for a moment before speaking.

"What would you do if you found her? Then what?" Her face is burning and color is creeping its way up her chest and neck and into her cheeks, but she doubts that he can see it from where he's standing. Her hair is down around her shoulders the way she usually wears it, just in case any super-fans who'd taken notice of his were hiding in the nearby portion of the crowd. She doesn't want anyone to see it. Just Steve. If he wants to.

His gaze goes back to Lynne when she yells. He hesitates to answer her question - because he's mostly not sure how to. He glances her over and it slowly dawns on him that this woman was probably not a reporter. There was no little notepad, or phone held out to record an answer to transcribe later, nothing. Steve could feel his mouth grow dry a little as he looks her over. He's been asked before, of course, the whole idea of having fans was still so weird but he'd been told it came with the territory. And while Steve tries his best not to judge people, the woman asking now seems to not have the same sort of look - which he realizes does make him sound like a jackass - as the others.

He clears his throat a little before he speaks again. "I'd uh - " a pause as he weighs his answer. Again there's the answer and then what is appropriate to say given the circumstance. "I'd apologize that she got saddled with a workaholic," he finishes lamely and hopes it comes off at least a little bit jokingly. Steve averts his gaze, suddenly feeling hot under the collar while holding hers and nods towards Tony beside him.

"If there's any other questions, Mr. Stark will take them," he excuses himself and steps away from the podium set up. Steve moves to walk out of the area set up for press, but pauses near a security guard at the side and glances back toward Lynne in the crowd. He can be seen talking with the guard before he ducks inside Avengers Tower after asking the guard to escort Lynne inside.

Steve's watching a live feed of one of the news channels in the lobby and turns when he hears Lynne walking up behind him. "The last woman who asked me about soulmate marks tattooed a bald eagle on her arm," he starts and shrugs sheepishly. "Please tell me you didn't tattoo a bald eagle on yourself."
