COFFEE SHOP AU

coffee shop au

The weather is getting cold and what's better for batting off that chill than a nice hot beverage in a place with comfy chairs and a barista who knows your favorite combo?

( stolen from bakerstreet on dreamwidth )

How to Play:
  1. Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences.
  2. Be sure to mention any scenarios you are interested or not interested in playing.
  3. Tag Others.
  4. Be awesome to each other.
  5. Have fun!

Use the RNG to help you pick or choose on your own!

PROMPTS
  1. CUSTOMER: You spent ages choosing your drink, lining up for it and now there are no more tables. Great. As a result, you have to look for somewhere to sit while balancing that tray laden with your drink of choice and tasty pastry in your hands. Looks like you've got no other choice than to ask that person with the spare seat at their table.
  2. BARISTA: An employee of this fine establishment, if nothing else, knows how to brew coffee. We hope. Maybe you're the best barista in the world. Or maybe you barely know how the machine works and instead make up for it by coming up with hilarious names on people's paper cups. Either way, you work here and go through the daily grind.
  3. STUDENT: It's no secret that students congregate in droves towards coffee shops for a combination of free wifi and caffeine. Whether in a group or on your own, the laptops and papers are out in full force. Whether any work is actually getting done is another question.
  4. EARLY MORNING RUSH: It's first thing and you're crabby. All you want is your coffee and you will kick, punch and claw your way for that cup of black gold. And it looks like you're not the only one feeling this way. Are you going to let that person stealthily cut in front of you?!
  5. NOT A COFFEE PERSON: Maybe you just want to try coffee for the first time. Or you're a tea drinker who is rethinking their views on coffee. You're canvassing for opinions, and that can range from outright asking other customers to hovering over tables to monopolizing the barista for a good 5 minutes, holding up the line.
  6. COFFEE DATE: Asking people out to a coffee is the easiest thing in the world. Or is it? Whether it's with a friend or something more romantic, a coffee date is a good opportunity to connect with people and talk about whatever comes to mind.
  7. LATE NIGHTS: The evening sky is dark and there's hardly anybody left in the coffee shop. Closing time is not for a while yet, but a stillness has settled over everyone. It's that time of night where anything can happen.
  8. WILDCARD: Not interested in any of the options or have an idea of your own? Do your own thing; you do you!

Coffee.

Cora needs coffee. She's not exactly what you'd call a coffee snob, by any means. But she's already run this morning, and she's both hungry and in need of a pick-me-up. Most of the time Cora isn't sure whether or not coffee is a psychosomatic thing or whether it legitimately helps, but either way she gets a Caffè Americano and three pastries. She's not even sure she remembers what kind now, but they'll hold her over for now.

Unfortunately, the entire place is full. It's not that she didn't hear them all while ordering, but she's still annoyed. At least, until she picks up something familiar. Stilinski. That is definitely Stiles sitting at a table. Cora doesn't give herself time to hesitate, it's not like she's going to be intruding. She makes her way to his table and sits down, "You waiting for someone?"

Cora sits her pastries and coffee down before she rips one of the pastries apart and pops a piece into her mouth, looking up at the teenager who...well, somehow had become entangled in everything going on in Beacon Hills. If it weren't for Derek, she probably wouldn't be here, but here she is...bothering Derek's...friend?

He'll never admit it, but Stiles had been feeling pretty lonely lately. Like...Match.com lonely. Sitting alone for almost an hour after the time he'd supposed to be meeting this girl is not helping curb that feeling any. He's been through two red eyes and a chocolate chip muffin and still...nothing.

He's frowning and staring uselessly at the door, willing it to open and for the right girl to come through, and his focus is so set on that single task that he doesn't hear Cora until she sits down and blocks his line of sight.

Stiles jumps a little, but quickly recovers. "Huh? Oh..." Stiles pauses and looks down at his watch. Then, back up at Cora with a little shrug. "No, I guess not. How's it going? I haven't seen you around in a little while."

Cora doesn't know Stiles, not really. She's not blind, or an idiot, though. He's alone. He's at a coffee shop. He probably was waiting for someone. So, his answer does cause the werewolf's right brow to lift slightly, particularly as he looks at his watch.

"You guess not...stood up, then?" Cora asks before shoving another bit of pastry in her mouth as she shrugs. She's not really sure how it's going. She doesn't want to be in Beacon Hills. This place has too many memories, too much insanity, and too many wannabe heroes for her, generally speaking. And yet here she is....because Derek.

"It's Beacon Hills, how do you think it's going?" Cora picks her her coffee up and takes a sip before putting it back in the same spot from before. "I haven't been back long."

Rather than dignifying that question with its humiliating answer, Stiles just clears his throat, cocks his eyebrows, and shrugs again, keen to get off the subject of the big, ol' fail his love life has become.

Her response is...well. Fair enough. "Touché," he agrees simply, watching her lift the coffee and take a drink, his eyes following the cup's descent back to the table for lack of anything else to look at just then.

Stiles looks back up at her when she says she hasn't been back for long. "Are you staying this time...?" he wonders aloud before he can stop himself.

Cora knows the answer, despite the fact that Stiles doesn't want to say it. He's not exactly subtle. Or maybe she's just quick to an assumption. Either way, she leaves it, for the moment. His love life isn't exactly one of her priorities, anyway. Technically, it probably isn't any of her business either.

"Exactly, you get it." She can't help it. Cora doesn't have many fond memories of Beacon Hills anymore, not considering what happened. And the place attracts not only insanity, but drama and everything supernatural under the sun, which just complicates life...completely.

Cora doesn't know the answer to Stiles' question, not really. Does she want to leave Derek again? No. Does she really want to be here? No. So, here she is. "For now, at least. My brother's here." And that's the best reason to be here. Cora grabs another bit of the pastry she's working on and then pops it into her mouth before sliding the third one she bought toward Stiles, not sure if it's to give him something to do other than watch her, or if it's a gesture of...thanks or something for not making a comment about her sitting here.
