Second page of Compendium's X profile
[This page is more about gameplay than story or character development.]
WEAPONS
X’s basic weapon is the X Buster built into his hand. But his truly distinctive feature lies in his variety of expansions. Almost all Repliroids inherit his design concept, and their weapons can be reattached to X. The armors Dr. Light left are also important equipment. X Buster
It fires three shots in a row, and works even underwater. It can fire an even stronger shot by charging up. It has enough force to smash an enemy and keep going straight through.
Charge Shot
The charge shot is extraordinarily powerful. You’ll want to have it ready at all times. [There’s a picture from the opening movie of X3, showing X’s hand withdrawing into his arm to form the Buster.] In combat, his hand retracts, and the X Buster is equipped in its place. The circumference of his arm thickens by the amount his hand is retracted. [I am not making this up, I’m just translating.]
Power-up Chips
Double Barrier, Hyper Charge, and various other parts are available, and you can raise the abilities of X’s party by installing them. There are parts specifically for X or Zero, and parts anyone can use. In X’s case, many of them strengthen the X Buster, such as Speed Shot and Hyper Charge. You can obtain various chips during missions, and equip them to power up. You can acquire all sorts of abilities by equipping chips.
Special Weapons
One of X’s distinguishing features is the ability to equip weapons from enemy Repliroids. Special weapons cover a lot of areas on attack and defense, and are indispensable to the smooth completion of your missions. There are some devices you can’t operate without a special weapon.
Armor
The armor parts Dr. Light left can raise X’s performance by leaps and bounds. Armor is made up of four parts: Head, Body, Arm, and Foot. During an outbreak of Sigma Virus, the emphasis is on security, and parts are supplied in the form of programs, which can be used only after all four are collected.
MOBILITY
X's standard performance is high, and doubtless his high mobility is sustaining him in his role as a Hunter. Of course he is heat- and water-resistant, and he also has excellent maneuverability, such as the dash and the jump. Moreover, by combining these multiple abilities, he can perform advanced actions such as the dash-jump. Compared to Zero, he has more dash-derived abilities, and you could say he is a compact model Repliroid with an emphasis on speed.
Wall kick/dash
The wall kick is the ability to grab on to vertical walls, and by combining it with the jump, you can also climb walls. The dash is the ability to temporarily increase traveling speed, and has applications in all sorts of situations. You can get out of dangerous circumstances promptly with the dash.
Air dash
You perform a dash in mid-air, and travel swiftly to the left or right. At first this was accomplished with armor parts, but lately it is often achieved without parts, as a standard ability. It also has the merit of prolonging your time in the air.
Hovering
Unlike the air dash, the ability to stay still in one place in mid-air. You can also travel this way, but at a slow speed. Used chiefly to gain time in the air, to select a landing site. Hovering is effective when you want to choose a landing site carefully.
[Translator’s Note: “emphasis on speed” surprised me. Just from his name alone, I would have thought Axl/Accel was supposed to be the speedster. Then I would have named Zero, with the double jump, for maneuverability, and X, with all the armors and weaponry, for sheer power.]
