Sure thing! Here’s the first part of it. I won’t get to the rest tonight, my dad’s asking me to check his tax figures. - -;
p.173 top, next to Axl Inafune: Consulting on Axl’s design was about all I did on X7. I said, If you’re going to put in a new character, at least pay attention to the silhouette. Robots have a tendency to look all alike in outline. I was also very careful to distinguish the silhouettes when X and Zero were designed. So that’s why Axl has a spiky head and handguns and so on.
beneath Axl Yoshikawa: According to Axl’s character specs, he wasn’t always a good guy, so he’s designed with a scar and an emphasis on black to give him a dark image. But his origin comes after X and Zero, so his face and hairstyle express youth and childishness.
[Trans. Note: While I’m at it, the caption on Red just explains he’s designed to suggest the Grim Reaper, but I suspect most Western fans could guess that just from the scythe.^^;]
p.182 Lumine Yoshikawa: To distinguish him from the existing humanoid characters, we did away with the helmet. As a new-generation Repliroid, we tried to give him a more nearly human image. His final form is in the image of an angel.
Vava V Yoshikawa: We brought his militaristic mania to the fore. His individual emblem has the appeal of showing he doesn’t belong to any group. It’s like he’s an army of one (laughs).
Sigma Yoshikawa: We’re following the precedent of X1’s Sigma, plain and forceful. But there was one place I got very particular. Up to now, Sigma’s chin has changed shape depending on who was drawing it. I didn’t like that, so I had them settle on a definitive version of Sigma’s chin for me (laughs). His final form is in the image of a devil, to go with Lumine’s angel.
