A path had been worn from all the walking back and forth she'd done.. Miles of pacing while pacing for Miles.
At first she hadn't worried. She loved him and trusted him and so when he told her he needed to go and that he would be back she thought nothing of it. Their love was the only thing she wanted, the only thing she could rely on and the only thing she trusted.
He needed to go. Why should she deny him anything?
When Miles Huxley told his bride Fortune Huxley that he would return shortly she believed him utterly.
Then he came back wounded the first time and she began to wonder about where he went and why he needed to go. She was ready to start a family and her father said he would allow him to apprentice and then he could take over the apothecary. She thought that was what he wanted.
but he kept going off...and the worrying didn't cease.
He'd told her he would be home tonight but she didn't know when and as the night grew long the path grew longer...and deeper. Her hands were wrung, her hair was played with and she prayed that her fairy king was safe.
