With the cigarette still in his mouth, Alfie looked up to the girl and smiled, clenching the filter lightly between his teeth, before pulling another drag. He understood her worry for his health but a man had very specific needs in his line of work and they mostly involved gout-inducing, lung-blackening decadence. Why have that much money if one wasn't willing to spend it on various drugs, firearms, alcohol and tobacco?
"Okay," he replied with a bit of reluctance. There was nothing left to say? But he didn't want to pry into something that was none of his business on any level, so instead of asking her the mandatory 'are you sure about that?' he settled for nodding to reaffirm, and then stood up, plucked the cigarette from between his lips and thrust both arms out with hands splayed, presenting the pool to the girl.
There was a boy inside him somewhere that whispered 'push her in,' but he always ignored that voice. No gentleman ever pushed a lady into anywhere unless she asked him first, and that was a situation for adults only.
