Seeing Poppy's face made Mercy light up. She leaned in and hugged her tight. "I have to look nice for the bagels," she said wincing at her own terrible joke. It came with part of the territory of spending an inordinate amount of time around children. At least they seem to appreciate the effort of being treated like normal children, not that she ever had children of her own. She wanted one, but was sure she was going to die alone.
Her face darkened for a moment, before she fixed a smile on it and pulled back to look down at her slightly shorter friend. "Maybe I should've brought them flowers," she said before giving a tired sigh. She didn't have to really worry about faking being happy. She just didn't want to wear out her usually stress free friend. The only person she needed to bring flowers to was the dark haired woman in front of her, if she were honest.
She just wanted to lay around and lean on her. Feeling the other woman's warmth and having contact with someone other than her beloved fur covered son, was just nice.
There were other things that were nice too. She looked troubled, but took in a deep steeling breath. "I met a guy."
