Things had been so crazy since she’d become woke. While she’d given Ares a run down, the summer months had been a little more busy as everyone was attempting to maintain those beach bods. While they’d had time to talk about work stuff...before she went off gallivanting with Peter, there hadn’t been a lot of downtime to catch up on how things were. She wouldn’t be afraid to admit that part of that was because of who his wife was. Aphrodite was one person she really didn’t want to mess with when she came back into power. For now, she was just finishing out a session for a new member. They felt more comfortable now that the place was slowly emptying out. She’d just finished the last of their one on one session to show them properly how to do everything. Walking them out, she noticed Ares was opportunistically alone. So she made her way over and made herself comfortable on the wall space beside him. “Hello.” --- He’d pissed off Aphrodite enough for the both of them in recent months. And he would agree that nobody should mess with her. Even if she wasn’t full strength. Ares was pretty sure he had some gray hairs starting to form, which was annoying, He wasn’t supposed to get gray, yet, there they were. Whatever. He’d just deal with it. Maybe they were just really blond. Ares had just finished a workout with one of his long term clients. She was one of the reasons he refused to just give everything up and turn his client list over to other people. Not because he wanted the woman, but because she’d been with him since almost day one. It was hard to just drop somebody when they’d been with you for years. She was loyal and a friend. He was looking over a file with Connie… no, Atalanta… came up to him. He glanced over at her, closing the folder. “Hey. What’s up?” --- “Hey,” she said again. It was a little awkward, but it had been a good while. “Just coming over to check in with my favorite boss and former best spar buddy.” They hadn’t had a proper match in quite some time. “I do need some more practice on my spear work.” It had been one of her primary weapons in her past life. While she was slowly remembering things, her muscle memory was shit. Asclepius wasn't much good for it and she felt like a trident was very much different in usage. She didn't just need to know how to defend against a weapon so much as how to handle it properly. Ares felt like the best choice. --- He chuckled a little at that. “Yeah. I think it’s for the best that I’m your former in that category.” While his actual abilities were slow to come back to him, his strength was back. And he found it very hard to hold back. It was one of the reasons he’d stopped teaching one on one fighting classes. Mostly he went with the weight training aspect of things now. He nodded, looking around before turning his attention back to her. “Then, let’s set up a time to work on that. We all know that it’s probably coming down to another fight. We need to make sure that you’re ready for that.” He would be so insulted if she reached out to somebody else to teach her the spear. --- "I guuuuessss," she said dragging the word out and rolling her eyes. "I mean Caspian's always down." Sure it usually ended in both their favors if she was honest, even though she complained about it later...usually, sort of, not really. "I should probably heckle Liam into it more now that I think about it." At first it felt weird to call them by their true names. Then it felt weird to call them by their human names. Now, by necessity, she easily switched between them for sake of location. It wasn't until he mentioned the oncoming battle that she seemed to shift. It wasn't that she wouldn't fight against him, because she would. At this point, it wasn't about fighting for a goddess. It was about fighting for her friends. She didn't know if they'd revert once they were fully restored, but having seen what the awakening had done to Caspian had been confusing. Asclepius was handling it a lot better. She herself. Well, she was still figuring that out. "That would be for the best," she said as her lips pressed in a grim line. "I'm more concerned about getting back to my prior shape...despite..." That was very much not Connie talking. Remembering how intimidating her former body was really knocked her down a peg or two. --- He smirked at that, shaking his head. “I haven’t seen him around in a long time.” Which made a lot of sense. He’d been to one of Caspian’s parties before. The man didn’t need Ares’ gym. “Last I saw Liam, he was elbow deep in some soil, tending to some plants.” Ares just shrugged. He didn’t question what the doctor did. He looked her over when she said that, smirking. “Despite being about half the size of your previous self?” He grinned with a chuckle. He knew. He remembered her quite well. How could he not? He nodded to one of his former clients as they passed. “Just let me know when you want to do that. Unfortunately, I haven’t found my spear yet,” he frowned, shaking his head, “but I have others we can use.” --- Atalanta rolled her eyes at him clearly remembering her being much closer to his height than she currently was. The way all the gods towered over her had never been an issue before she remembered. At least, he wasn't patronizing about her ability. He was the same as he'd been before, confident that he could hone and shape her skills. That gave her more of an ego stroke than she'd like to admit. "I haven't really gotten anything like the others just yet," she said rubbing her chin. "I wouldn't mind my bow, spear, or even my hunter's knife back." She'd heard of people getting their weapons back, but they were significant to them. While she had worked primarily with the same weapons most of her life, they were hardly divine. "Probably lost." --- Patronizing her wasn’t really his style. He didn’t even really patronize people when he was Ares back in the day. Unless they deserved it. Some people deserved it. Connie didn’t. Atalanta didn’t. He wouldn’t start doing it now. And of course he could hone her skills. Who else could, if not for the god of war? He was the master of all things involving weaponry and fighting. “It’s frustrating. Father has his lightning bolt back.” It wasn’t a secret, but it wasn’t something that was talked about, either. He wasn’t worried about anyone in here freaking out, though. “One day we’ll get back what’s ours.” He had to have faith. Otherwise, his spear and armor, forged by Hephaestus, would be lost forever. Ares just shrugged at that, frowning. “Probably some trophy for a fucking Titan.” And he hoped so. Then he’d look forward to ripped apart the fucker that took his shit. --- She didn't know how she often forgot that Ares was a god of war. It wasn't so much that she forgot, but that this was Caleb in front of her. She'd spent years in this gym with him. She'd trained and expanded her confidence, range of skill, and...other things, with him. They'd known each other incredibly intimately and he was a god. He was a god, and although she had been a heroine, she was still human. "Must be nice to have amazing divine powers and immortality. I can see how it'd be frustrating in that perspective." When he mentioned a titan having his spear, she winced. "I feel sorry for any Titan foolish enough to try to brandish it." Although she was certain a war titan could possibly give him a run for his money, since they currently had more worshipers. She was quiet for a moment, before a thought crossed her mind. "Have you seen many of your children?" |
