There it was, and the news didn't feel any more or less real than it had before, but he did feel some relief in telling her. He wasn't sure why, and even before she reacted he could predict how that would go. Perhaps the shock still hadn't worn off, even if Donovan had talked about it the entire way home. Alastair didn't realize there were so many ways to say congratulations and you'll do a great job, but Donovan somehow manged it.
