The age gap between Alec and his sister was large enough that she'd still been in school when they'd initially started the weekly breakfast tradition, put in place after Alec had moved out and the two went weeks without seeing each other. It was deemed an unacceptable situation, and Weekend Dinner was born. Of course, back then, Alec had been on day shift, so he'd bring dinner food whenever he got off a shift on a weekend day. As time went on and his schedule changed, Weekend Dinner turned into Weekend Breakfast, and eventually Weekend came to mean whenever Abi had a day off from the Academy. This was the first Weekend Breakfast since her sudden graduation and rough first assignment, so Alec made sure to bring several of her favorite donuts and a few other things he knew she really liked. Just in case she was still having a rough time adjusting. He had a bad habit of forgetting to respond to things he got when he was asleep when everyone else was awake, so they hadn't done as much talking this week. Though even if they had, Alec didn't know that he trusted Abi to be completely honest about how she was feeling about things yet. He unlocked the front door to the house and let himself inside, always feeling just the slightest bit relieved whenever he walked into his childhood home; he found his sister already waiting for him in the kitchen even though it was her day off and she could have slept in. "Hey kid, how'd you sleep?" he asked, setting a bag of food and a cup in front of her. |
