WHO: Dorian and Inara WHEN: Wednesday night WHERE: The Velvet Room WHAT: Dorian hopes for the company of a professional Companion RATING: PG-13 STATUS: Incomplete
Dorian's eyes were closed as he played. He didn't need sheet music for most of the melodies in his repotoire. He had been playing since he was a young boy and had often entertained people in London with his concerts. To his delight, people here seem even more receptive of his talent. It was rather novel for him to gain popularity through an honest profession rather than his silver tongue. And he was making a lot of money into the bargain. What with tips and the promise of a large pay check, Dorian was certain that soon he'd be able to afford to hire more lavish rooms in the hotel. Once he had a suitable place to entertain, the parties and gatherings could commence.
Dorian let his eyes flutter open as he drew to the end of the piece he was playing. A few people at the tables nearest him clapped politely, and one little girl stepped up onto the plinth that held the grand piano to drop a few pennies into the bowl on the wooden stand meant for tips. Dorian smiled brilliantly at her and she flushed red and ran back to her parents.
Smiling to himself, Dorian stood up. The evening had passed quickly today; surprising seeing as Dorian had been looking forward to eleven o clock all night. He couldn't wait to meet this "Companion". Gently he lowered the piano lid to cover the ivory keys, and similarly let down the top of the grand piano, before collecting his tips and heading through the little arch from the dining area into the reception hall and bar. Usually people didn't just come here to drink, but he'd checked with the little purple man behind the bar earlier, and he had agreed to serve him and this Inara Serra as long as he didn't make a habit of it. Dorian wasn't quite sure who the new purple additions to the staff were, but they didn't seem overly influential.
Dorian leaned against the bar, watching the doors, waiting. The Velvet Room overlooked the lake and had a beautiful balcony over the water with tables set for meals. Dorian had placed a little reserved sign on the one nearest the water earlier that evening. He could see it through the clear glass doors and smiled. Everything was perfect, including the starry night sky and warm temperature. Now all he needed was the woman.
