It was finally Saturday, the night Edward had been looking forward to all week. It was the night both he and Bella had off from work, which was a rare thing and he was determined to do something special for the two of them…and he knew precisely what. A nice romantic meal and night spent together would be the perfect escape from the realities of the world they’d both been unexpectedly flung into. It would be like old times…or so he hoped.
Earlier that week he had underwent quite an incident at the grocery store when shopping for their meal. Fangirls galore had sailed through the grocery store, leaving Edward completely dumb-founded until a friendly co-worker by the name of George Luz saved him from their craziness. It really had been quite interesting to hear him intimidate Edward’s voice so…precisely. He had rather enjoyed getting to know the man…he seemed like a pretty decent and funny guy.
He had talked to his two roommates, Lily and Rose, and both of them had agreed to stay elsewhere tonight so he and Bella could have the cabin to themselves for a quiet and romantic evening.
Pulling the steaks from the refrigerator, he also got out the potatoes and the green beans. It wasn’t too complex of a meal, but much tastier than the cafeteria food they served in this resort. Edward had been around for a long time, and had learned the art of cooking long before Bella was around. Of course, he couldn’t eat the food, but he knew if the occasion every rose, he would love to cook for his true love. And here he was…doing just that.
Since it was too cold outside to grill, he pulled a skillet from the cupboard under the counter and turned it on low to medium heat. That was the perfect temperature to cook a steak on the stove. While the steak was cooking he made his way to the sink and began peeling and cutting up potatoes before putting them in water so they could soften up. He steamed the fresh green beans and began seasoning the steak. Moving on, he mashed up the potatoes, adding bacon bits, sour cream, butter, and chives. It was like a mashed baked potato, and he knew it would taste amazing.
Finally removing the perfectly tender steak from the stove, he moved into the dining room where he placed two plates, even though he didn’t eat and rummaged out some silverware and a couple vanilla scented candles. The smell reminded him of their dessert in the refrigerator: chocolate covered strawberries. Tonight would be perfect.
Smiling to himself as he finished setting the table and making Bella’s plate, he kept it covered as he waited for her. And it wasn’t long before he heard a soft knock on the door. His smile grew as he moved towards the door, wearing a pair of dark wash jeans and a white button up shirt. Opening the door, he saw Bella standing there…looking slightly uncomfortable standing on a thing sheet of ice. A crooked smile played on his lips as he laughed softly, stepping close to her and kissing her forehead gently. “I’m glad you made it in one piece.” He whispered, embracing her for a moment before inviting her in.
