Adjusting
Who: Lily
When: evening, August 2
Where: Stables
What: adjusting, acclimating, getting to know her job
Status: Narrative
Lily had had a very busy, very exhausting day ... and it wasn't quite over yet. The morning had been a whirlwind of arriving and meeting an older version of a former friend. She'd explored the stables and learned her job until lunch time, whereupon she'd set out exploring as much of the compound as she could conceivably reach. It wasn't promising, what she'd seen.
She had attempted some spells, everything from a mundane lumos to an attempt to apparate. The lighting spell worked ... the apparating did not. She was not horribly surprised by that revelation, either. But Lily was a very determined lioness, and she thought it was just a matter of time before she found a way out.
She'd eaten dinner in her room while exploring the community network or whatever it was that she had a log-in and password to. That wasn't promising, either, and it amazed her how many people were perfectly content to be here. It was a nice place, certainly, but it wasn't home.
Perhaps if James had been here as well, she may have been a little less obsessed with the idea of an immediate return. However he was not here. She hadn't met many people during her explorations, nor had she engaged in any of the posted comments on the network, so she didn't honestly know who else here was from her world ... if anyone at all was. She thought if she was stuck here very long, she'd give some serious thought to getting to know all of the people here, but Lily was mostly intent on getting home.
She wondered if that meant she really would have to engage Severus' aid.
Thinking about Severus was like opening a can of worms she really had no desire to peek into. At home ... she'd put him aside in her memories, because he wasn't a part of her life anymore. It was her fault as much as his, she knew that, and sometimes she wished she'd acted on one of those moments in sixth or seventh year to ... to tell him she'd forgiven him for that. But every time she thought about saying that to him, she recalled his voice, that word, and everything after. She considered that the turning point, the point of no return for them. It was the moment that he had - as far as she was concerned - flashed up his true colors. The people he hung around with, his friends, his mates ... well, she was of the mind that the company he kept was telling enough.
But today ... she didn't even know what to think after this morning.
Before she reminded herself what he was ... the conversation had come easily enough, if a bit awkwardly. If only she hadn't done that ... Lily thought if they could only have ignored that, pretended it hadn't happened or didn't matter ...
But it was a moot point now. Now ... she supposed she'd have to see how things went. Maybe if he was persistent, if he ... didn't act like a Death Eater ... maybe she could at least have an acquaintance here. Someone to sit with at dinner or ... watch a movie with. But then, if she was here long enough to be comfortable going to movies, then surely by then she would have made some new friends.
Sighing, Lily wandered into the stable. Her feet were clad in heavy boots, and she didn't really like them, but it was a matter of safety-first. She really didn't want any broken toes while she got to know the huge beasts she'd be working with. The plan tonight was to familiarize herself with them and ... maybe chat up anyone who happened to wander in.
