She had just about leaped out of her skin when the three sharp knocks echoed in the other wise empty place. She had been standing there, holding her breath, listening and letting her eyes get used to the dark. Half expecting to hear those two words she dreaded to hear again. 'Poor Heather' Blah blah blah, really couldn't she get over it? Why did people feel the need to poke at a raw wounds? Jericho had sheltered her, there was no doubt about that.
Easing her way through the tables and chairs she inched towards the door. Pulling the ornate thick oak towards her she threw the lock with out it protesting, it slid back with a simple click. The place looked like it was straight out of Italy when it was lit up. In the dark there wasn't a whole lot to be made out, unless of course you could see in the dark then the details, like velvet drapes in the rich red would have been obvious.
Heather pulled the door open just enough so she could peek out. Relief washed over her when she recognized Pike. Opening the door wide enough so that he could get in she was half tempted to grab his shirt and pull, but she resisted the urge. It as kind of fun sneaking around like this was a dangerous operation though.
Once he was in she threw the lock behind him. "I'm going to go lock the back." She whispered. Why? Well why the hell not. She didn't even hit any lights on her way to the back door. They would only need a little light really... Right? Cutting through the kitchen the back lock was loud as it protested against being thrown. It definitely needed some WD40.
The chore done she opened a drawer, on her way back through the kitchen, and snagged one of the candle lighters that kept your fingers from being burnt if you used it. "I hate to say it," she spoke a little louder, that Kansas accent coming out clear, "but I hope this place never really opens up. If it does I am so setting up a bar in the basement." Slipping behind the bar she snagged one votive candle, lit it and pushed it back into place. This was followed by two more. Lighting up the bar area with the flickering yellow flame.
