Edward was in a state of shock when he saw his love just sitting behind a desk casually. Would this be his eternal punishment? Living in a world filled with Bella? The blood seared through his veins, anger beginning to heighten as his thoughts took over. Or maybe she was in the same place of afterlife as he? No, it couldn’t be. They were too different to be sent to the same place. She should be in a good place…not this damned hell.
She knew his name…and she first stated it as a question as if she wasn’t sure. Then came relief…and finally realization. A confused and startled look fell on his face as he watched her fragile frame move from the chair towards him. Her arms wrapped around him, and he felt her warm body pressed against his. In a state of shock that she was here and human…her scent, her warmth all still the same. He wouldn’t question it. For the moment, she was back in his arms. His strong, protective arms wrapped tightly around her and he held her close to him, never wanting to let go. “Bella, you’re dead…” He managed to whisper softly into her hair, his eyes fighting back tears as the realization that this wasn’t real finally hit. There was no way she could be there with him. It just didn’t add up.
No matter the reason, his arms remained around her, their bodies fitting flawlessly together. The familiar soothing sound of her heartbeat filled his ears and he closed his eyes, missing everything that Bella was. His hand ran through her hair and he gently pulled her from their tight embrace just enough to lean down and kiss her passionately. The fact that he would soon need to feed didn’t matter to him anymore. His Bella was here, in his arms. And that was all that mattered.
