Bella's pen still glided over the paper, twisting a curved heart beside Edward's name. The time since the last check in had gone so slowly, seeming like no more than a minute crept by inbetween each time she glanced at the little clock in the bottom right hand corner of the computer screen. Still, finally, there was only five minutes until she finished, and everyone in the foyer just seemed to be hanging around.
She was just tracing over a star she'd drawn earlier when she heard a squeel from a bunch of girls by the door. Joy, she thought to herself. I wonder who it is this time. Last time the fangirls had got excited, it was some guy from a film she didn't know. She rolled her eye, mid-sigh, when she heard just what they were squealing.
She froze, her eyes widening. It couldn't be, surely. True, she'd been looking out for him all day, but the chances of him just walking in here were miniscule. She didn't even want to get her hopes up. It would probably be someone out of a comic called Edward or something, and she'd just be disappointed.
Her eyes fluttered shut, her head still lowered, as she heard someone approaching. His voice sent a shudder through her whole body, her stomach twisting. Where was he from? Did he know her? He didn't seem to. It took every bit of effort in her to stop the tears springing to her eyes. She hadn't even considered that he might not know her, but she knew it would break her heart if that was the case.
Slowly, she raised her face, her eyes opening, to look up at him. Once again, just like last time, she was hit by just how beautiful he really was, the way his skin seemed to be laced with diamonds. She took in a ragged breath as his eyes met hers. She couldn't speak, couldn't move. "Edward..." she breathed, her eyes fixed on him as he stepped back.
"Edward?" she asked a little more urgently. She needed to be near him. She had missed him so much. It had only been two weeks this time, but he'd promised she'd never have to be without him again. Tears welled in her eyes as she pushed herself up from the chair, the wheels sending it rolling back across the hard floor.
"Edward!" It was only three steps to the edge of the desk and only another four until she was throwing herself into his arms, but to Bella it still felt too long. She'd been feeling down, stratchy and glum up until this morning, and in a state of complete confusion after Alice's network post, but none of that mattered now. Securing her arms around his cold, hard neck, she buried her face in his chest, breathing in the wonderful scent of him. He really was really and he really was here.
