Bella managed to focus slightly on what she was saying. She didn't know what a tounament was in the sense she was speaking of, but it looked like it troubled her. "Was a good man?" she questioned tentatively. She made it sound like he was dead or something. She bit her lip. She had no idea what kind of world this woman came from, but every world was full of death and sorrow, so it was certainly possible.
Even she, in her short and relatively uneventful (until she met Edward) life had experienced her fair share of loss. It was never fun. Even when the wolves had killed Laurent, even when she knew it was his life of hers, she hadn't been able to dismiss it completely. The vampires bought death and destruction with them and that was something she'd had to come to understand. It was who she was, after all. It was the life she had chosen.
