There was the worry about what Marian's reaction to what had happened with Laura would be. But he knew her better than he knew Heather, and so her reaction was not quite so unpredictable. She had made no secret of the feelings she had toward him. And whilst he felt very close to her, his heart belonged to Marian. But that didn't mean he wanted to have this happen.
He smiled when she finally looked up at him. He could see the reluctance, but he didn't care about how she looked. What he cared about was that he was the cause of the tears. Bringing one leg back up so he could turn toward her, he put his arms around her in a hug, holding her close.
"Good. Because I don't want you to go either." She'd said she wanted to go home, and that was the last thing he wanted.
