She was just close enough to the edge that a little push, or a the wrong shift and she'd be in the lake. But she wasn't going to confirm or deny that what he had said was funny or not. It might have been had it been said a week ago... Or even just a few days ago. Actually she might have grinned at him and given him the big blue doe eyes, that would have said 'yes please'. But she wasn't feeling the doe eyes. So instead she gave the water a rather harsh kick.
"I don't know what..." Her breath caught as he brushed her hair back behind her ear. Her eyes squeezed closed, and she held her breath until her heart returned to it's regular beat, before releasing it slowly. She still couldn't look at him. It was too costly. So she kept her eyes squeezed shut.
