Katherine had had her girls night with Brooke and Elena, but it really didn't help like she had hoped it would. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate their trying, she did. It just didn't make the pain go away. More rejection. That was all she ever got here. Sure, she had friends, but that was all she could ever have. And she had to watch Stefan and Elena being happily married and she had to be happy for them. It was all wearing her down so that she had started to regain some of her bitchiness. She still wasn't manipulative, she still cared too much, but she was tempted to do whatever she could to stop for good. She didn't want to care if it always came out this way. Stefan liked to tell her that it was worth it in the end, but she didn't believe it. Of course it was for him. He had the person he wanted. He had someone. Katherine was going to spend eternity alone at this rate.
She sighed softly and stepped into the bar. She needed a drink, she needed to get seriously plastered and maybe even go home with someone. It would only be a short-term fix, but it would be something. It wouldn't be her pretending to be happy when her friends didn't understand the pain she was really in.
She walked to the bar and ordered a drink in a demanding tone. "Make it strong," she added as the oompa loompa turned to get her order. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She really hoped this would help. Mason's reaction had hurt a lot more than she thought it would. The problem was, she could have loved him given the chance. But now that she'd told him the truth, she was sure she would never have the chance. Stefan had told her to give him a few days, but would that be enough?
She finally opened her eyes and they landed on... Mason, two stools down. Fate was apparently deciding to be far more cruel to her than she thought. She pursed her lips together gently, trying to decide if she should say something. Stefan might have told her to give him a few days, but it wasn't like she had known he would be here. Maybe it was a sign she shouldn't wait. "Fancy seeing you here," she said dryly, but in a softer tone than she had given the oompa loompa who still had not returned with her drink.
