Katherine had been here so long that she hadn't even known Mason died until Elena told her. When watching the show with Brooke, she had actually seen it happen and even though she had been expecting it, it had been hard to watch. Harder, even, because she was a different person now. She realized that using Mason the way she had hadn't been fair and to have him die like that, so sure of their love. It made her feel horrible.
She didn't think she would ever actually see him to make up for it, but now he was here. She wasn't sure what to do now. She owed him an explanation, and not just about the tv show thing, but her ulterior motives. That wasn't going to be easy to tell him. He was bound to find out, though, and somehow she thought it might be better if he heard it from her.
She walked to the cabin he shared with Isobel and Alaric and knocked on the door. She had an invite from Isobel, but she was still not going to intrude. He was expecting her, and she knew he would answer the door soon. Maybe too soon. She didn't like being this nervous.
