She’d poured the whiskey herself, into a DOF glass, then had gone into a corner to ignore the look of disapproval from the other bartender. It was pretty well known by now that she’d given up alcohol and was trying to stay dry, and hadn’t had a drink in more than six weeks. Sitting with her back to the room (rare for her, but she didn’t want to talk to anyone really, or have anyone asking her why it looked like she was drinking), Jo leaned against the table and turned the glass in her hand as she stared at the amber liquid inside. She knew very well that she wasn’t supposed to be drinking, and should just pour out the glass and have some water – or nothing at all – but with the mood she was in, she was extremely tempted to drink.
Heavy on her mind were Cas and Dean, and the baby she had thought she was carrying. She couldn’t deny to herself that she’d been scared some, but more…she’d been happy. It had felt amazing, for a short time, knowing that she was going to be having a child with the two men she loved so very much. It never occurred to her to even wonder who the father might have been, because to her, it simply didn’t matter. They were a unit, and the child would have belonged to all of them no matter whose blood ran through it’s veins.
She had wanted to be certain before telling Dean and Cas, mainly because she knew that they might not have been as happy about the baby as she was. And she thought she was prepared for that, but after Dean’s reaction…she realized she wasn’t. A bitter voice in the back of her head wondered if he might have suggested an abortion if the test hadn’t been false….or if he would have left her and Cas, not ready for the responsibility. It hurt, to feel that kind of doubt at the moment, but she couldn’t deny the fear of it…not to herself, at least.
Sighing, she set the glass down on the table and ran a hand across her face. Jo knew she should head back to her fiancées, but at the moment she just didn’t have the energy.
