"I cannot imagine," Arthur replied, frowning. Merlin, with magic... truly, there had been times when he felt like he was missing something about his manservant, but evil was not something he would ever subscribe to Merlin. If anything, the fellow was too compassionate at times. He could only hope that it was nothing that happened in their own time, that his father might get wind of; things had managed to work out in the past, but just barely. If something occurred that was significant enough to make future generations believe Merlin was a-- wizard, was it?-- there might be no help for him.
At the query regarding his skill, Arthur smiled. "Not exactly; my skill has led to my position as leader of the army. I have been training since I could lift a sword, and served several years with the knights before I could lead them. I have also succeeded in winning all but three tournaments in which I've competed for the last four years."
