"Join the club," Adam replied with a dry, humorless chuckle. "Seems like explaining things would kill people. It's so much more fun to shove a person into some nightmarish situation and watch them drown."
He paused and bit his bottom lip. That had come out rather bitterly and betrayed the constant anger that hid being his facade of being in control. He was neither in control of his life nor was he fine and right now it was so much easier to focus on Jessica's troubles than his own.
Temper flaring up again at the thought of anyone punching girls, Adam exhaled angrily, hoping to calm down. "Do you want to press charges? You can identify that piece of...," He paused. Was it okay to use crude language in front of her? She did look awfully young. "Crap?" Adam ended mildly, satisfied with the way he'd managed to censor his language.
