Isobel rolled her eyes at his little rant. Of course giving him the truth he had asked for would be just another thing that he would blame entirely on her for causing him grief. "You wanted the truth, Ric," she pointed out. "You told me to stop messing with your mind, so it's there in black and white. My feelings never went away. I still care, but I can't be what you need me to be." She shook her head and stepped backward toward the stairs. There really wasn't any need to continue this conversation, was there? "I'm sorry if you can't handle it, but I only told you what you wanted to know."
With that, she turned and started climbing the stairs, hoping that he would leave it at that. It was hard to see him in pain and know she caused it.
