Claire was surprised when Pike stopped, but she didn't take it for granted. She leaned against the wall beside him, looking over at him and shaking her head when he said that he deserved no less than death. She wanted to touch him again, and for a minute, reached her hand out to do so. But she remembered what had happened last time, letting it drop back to her side. She didn't want him to leave. She didn't move, though.
"That's not true," she said softly, looking up at him. "It's not, okay? I don't believe it and I wish you wouldn't, either..." she said. "But I can't change that you do. I know better than that. All I can do is tell you that I really wish you'd stop trying to get rid of me and realize that I'm not going to turn my back on you."
She lifted her hand again and touched it gently to his shoulder, ready to pull away at a second's notice if he gave any indication that it wasn't okay. But she wanted to try again. And if it wasn't okay, she was more than positive that he'd let her know.
