She honestly didn't care. Not about any of it, because she refused to believe that he was the monster that he thought he was. Yeah, he'd done some really bad things. But he was a good person underneath all of that. She listened still, when he talked about his motives behind killing the guest that had gotten handsy with her, but she still wasn't repulsed. She cared about him. And she wasn't going to run away screaming, no matter how much he seemed to think she should have.
She'd been about to say something when he started for the door. He was either confused by the fact that she wasn't terrified of him or scared of the fact that she wasn't lying. Either way, she wasn't finished. And she didn't want to be brushed aside like that. Especially when she was so willing to look past the past. He was practically speed walking, but not running. Had he really wanted to get away, he could already be gone. Across the whole resort and away from her without another thought about her. But he wasn't. And that wasn't lost on her. She stood up. "Pike," she called out, "please stop."
"I'm not a court of law or some sweet, innocent Red Riding Hood who's going to be scared away," she said, approaching the door as she spoke, just in case he stopped. "I care about you, damn it. And you admitted you care about me, too. So if you can give me a reason better than the fact that you seem to think that you'll hurt me, one that I'll actually listen to or be worried about? Then I'll leave you alone."
The only thing was, she knew there was nothing. "But what I think is that under all that? What you let everyone see? You're a good guy. I've seen it, Pike. I see it every time we're together, okay? You have a good heart. And you just...you deserve some good in your life, for once..." she told him softly.
