He lay still for a long moment after Johann settled. He needed the time to think, even though his mind was mostly quiet. After a while, he shifted a little, and put a hand to her shoulder. He leaned over, and took the chance of kissing her. His hand moved off her shoulder, to rest on her stomach.
He was acting on his genuine care and concern for her. He might not be able to say he loved her, but that didn't mean that he didn't. He couldn't really put a name to what he was feeling. It was just sort of there, churning inside him.
