When she saw him, Victoire felt tears well up in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She turned her head and stepped back a little, blinking the tears back as she did so. "Yes," she answered him. "Sorry, I just wasn't thinking." Usually, she was much more controlled than this, but any time she and Teddy had difficulty, it took a lot out of her, and this was worse than usual. She wasn't even sure if the pre-Egypt breakup was better or worse than this one. "Please, come in," she added to make sure he understood that it was okay.
When she was sure the tears that had been threatening her were gone, she looked up at him. What happened to them to get to this point? She knew that it wasn't her fault that he'd slept with her cousin, she hadn't even been here and it wasn't like she had control over getting sent away or being brought back. Maybe in some cases, he wasn't even in the wrong for that. Except for the one reason he was. The big, looming reason that Lily wasn't just any girl. Lily was her cousin. She pushed that aside, determined not to get into another fight with him tonight.
"I'm doing okay," she answered his earlier question once he was inside, the door was closed and her composure was regained. She didn't even know what to do. This was her boyfriend, and even times they broke up she'd gotten to a point where she felt comfortable enough to know what was allowed and what wasn't. Now, she just didn't. Finally, she quietly stepped toward him and hugged him, or more like wrapped her arms around him and stood there. His body was warm and comfortable and she needed comfort right now.
