He wasn't entirely sure how it had happened. Sure, he wasn't a stranger to meeting up with a pretty girl, having a talk or a few drinks. He'd done it enough on the road, just enjoying their company while Dean enjoyed bedding girls. Then when he'd been soulless, Sam had skipped the drinks and talks except when necessary, and gone straight to the sex. The rest hadn't mattered to him. Now, he was finding that it did. He wasn't really comfortable with acting the way he had for the past year. Sam missed the company, even though he wasn't entirely stable. The memories in his head of his time in the pit with Lucifer and Michael were kept in the back of his mind, because if he thought about them too hard, he started to shake - and he didn't want Dean to know. Cas, Dean, and Jo - who were somehow all....something? to each other - thought that he didn't remember everything he had done while soulless, or being in the pit, and he let them.
When Brooke had asked him out, his first instinct had been to say no, but honestly, he couldn't handle being in the house cooped up for another night. Sure, it was better than the cabins, but with Dean watching him like a hawk, Cas studying him with pity in his eyes, and Jo trying to act normal, but still acting skittish, Sam just needed a break from it all. He knew they cared, and he appreciated it, but he needed some time from them. Time to be himself again.
So he dressed a little nicer than he normally did - jeans, sure, but a dark blue button up shirt open over a t-shirt - and headed out to the Ice Room. When he stepped inside, he glanced around, automatically checking for threats because after so long, he couldn't not. Especially with Lucifer being in Ridgeway now, which was something he really didn't want to think about.
Moving over towards the bar counter, he spotted a young woman standing behind it and shifted to try and see her face. "Excuse me...is Brooke still here?"
