WHO: Stefan and Katherine WHEN: Tuesday evening WHERE: Gazebo by the lake WHAT: Stefan knows he and Katherine don't have much time left, so he wants to make it count RATING: TBD STATUS: Incomplete
Stefan waited under the gazebo, dressed formally in an old fashioned suit that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Lockwood mansion at the Founders Ball in 1864, despite it's modern machine tailoring and slim cut. It suit him. He always had looked reasonably good in a suit. Although the Founders Ball had been a hundred and forty five years ago, here he was again, waiting for Katherine, his stomach fluttering in anticipation of seeing her.
He had gone to a lot of effor to make this just right. The cd player hooked up to the mains supply running up under the gazebo floor was already playing a beautiful waltz. Stefan had scoured the internet for songs that would fit the occaision; some new some old, some slow some fast, some planned out some in which to just follow your feet. Each one he had chosen with Katherine in mind, imagining her swirling around the wooden planked floor of the gazebo in his arms, the lake lapping at the shore only metres away while the trees whispered on the opposite side.
Stefan looked out towards the lake, tucking his hands behind his back, his ears pricked, listening for any sound suggesting Katherine's arrival. He didn't miss one moment of tonight. He didn't know how many more nights they'd have together after all. It wasn't that he didn't like the thought of going back to loving Elena, it was just that knowing he'd lose Katherine broke his heart. He viewed Elena with all the care someone would pay to their brother's girlfriend, but nothing more. He loved Katherine, but he knew it couldn't last forever, and although he may regret it later, he was going to make this time count, for both of them.
