During Dom’s speech Sirius shrunk, mentally and physically. Hell, this was even scarier when Lily’s screaming. He really hadn’t realized how furious she had been with him. He had guessed that he had been the reason for Dom’s little walk through the city but not that she was still furious at him for that. And honestly he didn’t know why.
“Come on, haven’t even seen her! And don’t you look at your friends’ boyfriends? I did not do it to hurt you and you know that I like you for more reasons than your looks”, he said his voice rising. He tried to calm himself. “Look, I am sorry that I could not protect you from this thing, I really am. I promise I will take care of you from now on.”
Elena was watching the two of them with wide eyes. Seeing Dom mad was scary. Elena had a temper herself, and that temper would be unleashed on Damon when he decided to show up. The jerk! She had fed him her blood to keep his energy up and he had completely IGNORED her afterwards! They were supposed to have a New York City adventure and he had just…just IGNORED her! She was enraged, completely enraged.
“All men are assholes,” Elena said through gritted teeth. “Damon has a lot to answer for when he gets here.” Her fast softened briefly to look at Dom “and no worries, you didn’t offend me.”
“Thanks, Elena,” she murmured. Dominique was glad that she hadn’t offended Elena, but to be honest, it wasn’t at the top of her priorities. “No, I don’t. If my friends have boyfriends I don’t publically objectify them!” She closed her eyes and let out a breath before opening her eyes again. “And I know it wasn’t your intention, but it still hurt and that’s why I went to take a walk. But Sirius Black, I do not blame you for not protecting me. I blame me for not protecting me. I don’t need a guard dog. I am fully capable of protecting myself, this situation aside. I wasn’t angry that you didn’t save me. I was angry that I didn’t save me. The only part of that which made me angry is that you’d think I couldn’t protect myself.”
“Not all men are assholes! Maybe you just spend your time with the wrong men!” he said to Elena through gritted teeth.
He calmed down as he turned his attention to Dom. He wanted to ask why girls did not do it and what was so wrong about it but kept those thoughts to himself. “Err… so we are okay now?” He asked her and to his annoyance a pleading tone had sneaked into his voice. Sirius nodded at the second part of her speech. “I know how that feels. Maybe it helps if you know that even Gabriel had his problems with the thing. It already killed his sister. I don’t think that there’s anything we could have done.” The knowledge did not really help Sirius but maybe it would sooth Dom. He smiled weakly at her. “And sorry, but you there is nothing you can do to stop me from wanting to protect you.”
