Crowley stood when he realised Johan was coming back without Anna. he set his steaming mug of coffee down on the table. Coffee was his latest indulgence, particularly in the cold even though he didn't feel the cold or the heat of the coffee. He'd taken to drinking coffee just the same, because he liked the taste of it.
"What is it, boy?" Crowley met Johan at the door. The dog appeared agitated, and the blood on his snout and paws made Crowley feel agitated. he stilled Johan with a single command, and bent to touch the blood with a fingertip. It burned against his skin, without actually burning his skin. Crowley frowned. He sniffed his fingers, and sneered. The blood was not Anna's, and Crowley couldn't identify what it was.
"Where is she, boy? Take me there." Crowley shrugged in to his duster before following Johan out into the cold. Johan took him to the street where Anna had been attacked. The snow marked the scene well enough, with the footprints and the blood. Crowley could even see where Johan had taken a flying leap to assault the thing that had attacked Anna. It was then that he noticed the ashes, extremely out of place in the scene. He bent and gathered up a handful, and he felt the sputtering warmth of Anna's Grace in his palm.
Johan sat down, and thumped his tail. Crowley reached out a hand to pat his massive head. "You did good, boy." Crowley searched his pocket to find a small, but empty vial hidden down in the lining. He used it to contain the ashes, and when he capped the vial, the ashes started to glow. Crowley held it up for a moment before slipping it back into his pocket, where it might be safe.
Standing to his full height again, Crowley found himself face to face with what looked to be Lucifer, but was very definitely not Lucifer. Crowley started to say something, but whatever he might have said was lost to a sudden howling wind. It took a moment to realise the howl was actually Johan, but by then Crowley was in agonising pain. He heard Johan yelp, and then there was nothing but blackness.
Sometime later, perhaps a few moments or a few hours, Crowley became aware of Johan nuzzling against his side. Every muscle in his borrowed body ached, but the pain was minimal. Crowley put a hand out to pat Johan, the massive beast turned his head up to nudge at Crowley's hand. Crowley got to his feet, and nodded. "Take me to her, boy."
