He could tell the moment he'd upset Susan. He didn't even have to see her face to know he'd done it. He wanted to be cautious, he really did. What with Hermione talking about messing up the timeline, Neville was nervous. Somehow more so than he had been actually going back in time. They couldn't afford to fight now, so Neville followed Susan to where he knew she would be. The Leaky Cauldron. It was safe and familiar. Every time Neville had stepped into the building it struck him that it hadn't changed in 18 years. It was the same place now in 1980 as it was in 1998. She hadn't checked in under Susan or Sabrina, which meant she didn't want to be found. Too bad Neville wasn't a quitter. Instead, he went down the line of doors, knocking on them and apologizing when he found the wrong person on the other side. It wasn't the best method, but he wasn't Hermione. He wasn't going to strategize. He was just going to go with the first idea until it stuck. Finally, when he knocked on a door, Susan was the one who opened it. He'd been starting to lose hope that she was actually there, but he was relieved his hunch had been right. "Oh, thank Merlin," he breathed. "Can I come in?" |
