Who: Jacen and Ella. What: They need to have a long overdue talk about a LOT of things. Where: Ella's flat. When: November 7, 1980, early evening. Rating: Should be low but idk. Status: Closed/Incomplete.
Jacen huffed as he stood in line, impatiently waiting for the order he had placed to be ready but at the same time he really was in no rush. What lie ahead was not going to be easy, not by any means was it going to be easy. He and Ella really hadn't spoken since she had told him that she was pregnant. As soon as the healers had told him that he was free to go home, he had bolted. He had sent an owl to the head of the Hitwizard department claiming that he needed to take a short leave of absence and had then hunkered down in his flat, ignoring everything and everyone around him while trying to come to terms with the news that Ella had given him.
Was he upset? Not really. Was he shocked? You fucking bet he was. This was not something he had planned on. At least not yet. Did he want children? Of course he did...but he had wanted them to come later in life. After he had fully established himself at the Ministry. After he was settled in his career and was sure that nothing was going to happen and that it wasn't going to be taken away from him suddenly and he be left standing with no idea of what he was going to do with his life or where he was going to go with his life.
Then he had met Ella and all plans had gone right out the window.
He did not regret for a single moment having met her or being assigned to her as her partner. She was a fire and a light that he had not known he had been missing. She kept him on his toes and she definitely took no shit from him - and Merlin knew that Jacen had a lot of shit to give to people and often just acted without thinking which was very unSlytherin of him but he didn't care. She held him responsible for his actions and she challenged him every single day but the longer he was around her the faster he found himself falling for her. He wouldn't admit it, not yet anyhow, but he was a much better person for having met her and he honestly could not imagine what his life would be like without her in it. That didn't mean he was ready for children though. Was he going to step up and do what he needed to do? Of course he was but he was going to be terrified the entire time he was doing it.
This was unprecedented territory and Jacen had no problem admitting that he had no idea what the fuck he was doing. Hell, he didn't even know what Ella wanted to do or what she was going to do. They weren't married, they weren't even officially dating. She could make whatever decision she wanted regarding this presidency and her body and there was nothing he could do about it. He liked to think that she wouldn't do such a thing, that she wouldn't act without speaking to him first but if she did then that would be her right to do such a thing.
Finally making it to the front of the line he quickly paid for the food he had ordered, made his way outside and disapparated, reappearing in the hall just outside of Ella's door. For several long moments he just stared at the door, trying to work up the courage to knock. It was silly to think that he was afraid of what was to come but he would be lying if he said he wasn't. This could make or break everything and he knew what way he wanted it to go but only Merlin knew what was going to happen.
Taking a deep breath, he shifted the bag he held to his other hand and knocked firmly on the door before taking a step back and waiting.
