BELLAMY BLAKE & ECHO KOM SPACEKRU
THEIR APARTMENT | EARLY
NO WARNINGS | LOG, COMPLETE
Before Echo returned to her’s and Bellamy’s apartment that morning she made sure Raven made it to her own. Not that she didn’t trust her to make it in one piece, but considering all the overwhelming memories that had flooded into both of them she needed to make sure Raven was alright. They were shown some very emotionally distressing memories all at once and the end result, even if it was overall good, meant that Spacekru was no longer complete. She had given Raven one last hug, telling the other woman she would be staying home that day to process everything, to which Raven had expressed a similar sentiment.
It didn’t take long for her to reach her own apartment. Unlocking the door, she stepped inside and immediately looked around. “Bellamy?” she called, closing the door behind her. As much as she wanted to tell him everything she had seen she still had so much to process on her own. For the moment she just needed him to be present, even if it was only for a few moments. But she also knew it was imperative he go through the same thing as she and Raven had. There were things he needed to know too because it killed her to see him torn up over his sister even if she and Octavia had never been on good terms.
Bellamy had understood why Raven and Echo had wanted to run off and take a test with the amber and all that. Listen - it wasn’t like he didn’t get it, but Bellamy just wasn’t sentimental in that way. Except when it came to Octavia. Except, admittedly, more and more when it came to Echo. He cared deeply, respected, and was fiercely protective of Spacekru but after watching his world crumble before him with what his little sister, what… O had turned into. Whatever you wanted to call her now. Whatever you wanted to say to describe the shit she’d done and was still doing… it put a block on him emotionally in many ways and it definitely didn’t god damn help him want to go running after memories that he figured would probably only make it worse - that’s if the rumours were true. That Natasha had dyed her hair because of whatever she’d learned. That the other blonde girl had been totally wiped back to another time. People had learned shit and forgot shit and, hell, he might have even been willing if it meant forgetting what had become of O.
But ultimately, Bellamy hadn’t been up to risking it and at least the girls were going together and so that was better. They all worked better as a team and Bellamy stood behind that. He had been meaning to talk to Clarke last night and he just hadn’t had it in him. If that made him a shit leader or friend or whatever he was here, then so be it. Bellamy knew at some point to look over for himself as much as he had to other people. And this wasn’t about physical safety, it was about emotional well being that he just wasn’t fucking interested in getting into at the moment.
Wandering out of the kitchen dressed in jeans and a t-shirt (very standard for him no matter what version of Earth, of course) he smirked over at Echo, glass of water in his hand as he made his way towards her. “You and Reyes have a fun little adventure?” He asked, as cheeky as ever - not that Echo of all people would be expecting his heart on his sleeve at the moment.
The main reason Echo had gone with Raven to act as backup in case things went downhill with the amber. What she hadn’t expected was being knocked quite literally on her ass and to black out for any amount of time. The women had gained similar recollections when the other was present, although Echo had her own that she needed to process on her own before she could share with the others. Assuming the others wanted to know. She understood why Bellamy didn’t want to gain any new memories, but she felt that if he knew what she now knew it could possibly help him move on. There were positives and negatives to what she had learned, but that was to be expected. Echo hadn’t exactly been in the best position back in their world when she originally woke up here. She had been on the Eligius ship, had been told wear a shock collar as a precaution in order to prove her own intentions to defect.
In reality, she had gone on the ship for multiple reasons: She needed to save Raven, prove herself to Octavia that she deserved to live with the those who had emerged from the bunker, and in doing so she would save the others. It wasn’t about her even if leaving Bellamy behind had killed her. Being reunited with him had been the absolute best feeling in the world. He was safe and that was all that mattered. And now they could say with every confidence that despite their Earth being absolutely dead and being in cryosleep for much longer than intended and their family now being two short, that things had turned out much better than they anticipated. Echo needed Bellamy to know that too.
She smirked at his question as she helped to close that distance between them. When she was close enough she reached out and gently grasped his free arm. “It felt like waking up from a wild night,” she said with a little laugh. She searched his face for a moment, clearly thinking about her approach to this. “You should go too, Bellamy,” she said finally.
Echo had been in more direct danger where they were from, at least, from when she was grabbed from by the amber or fate or however you wanted to put it. But Bellamy had been in a bad way in a totally different way, he never told Clarke that Madi had just gone missing and it was one of the last things he remembered. Him and Clarke running around with guns to try and protect Echo and the rest and then showing up back at the tents to Madi just… gone. Bellamy felt that sting more than he’d have ever admitted. Madi going missing felt like losing O all over again, even if it was in an entirely different way. Everything had only gotten increasingly fucked up back home. At least here, as weird as it all was, there was some sort of normalcy he didn’t think they’d ever have been able to find back on their Earth. What was left of their Earth at that.
Here, everyone seemed to be showing up and honestly, it had Bellamy nervous. Nervous Octavia might show up and that he wouldn’t get lucky - like with Lexa showing up - and that it’d be this version of his little sister, his precious little sister, that he couldn’t even recognize.
Nudging her hand with his arm, Bellamy gave Echo a quizzical look. Moving his free hand to rest on her hip, he arched an eyebrow, “I’m good.” He said, already having made his mind up about the whole thing. He had known - especially in the hours alone to think about it - that Raven or Echo might do just this. Might suggest it. But Bellamy wasn’t going to be one to be easily convinced. “Our world’s screwed up enough, I don’t need to add a hangover to it.” He said, smirking down at her.
Sometimes it still surprised Echo that she and Bellamy had ended up finding each other the way they had. He could have left her on Earth when she had intended to end her life before the second praimfaya hit. He could have left her to be detained and eventually tortured by the people of the Ark. He could have left her in Mount Weather. So many he could haves, but instead he helped her more than anyone ever had. Echo could see how much Bellamy valued life and how much he wanted people to be better than what they were. Echo saw in him the good that people could truly be. For every inspirational speech he had given she felt he deserved a thousand.
Despite her past he had given her a chance to change, to be someone who wasn’t out for blood or only focused on the survival of her people. Thanks to Bellamy she wanted more out of life and she found in him both a lover and a friend. As much as Spacekru had become her family and as much as she loved them, Bellamy was without a doubt the single most important person in all the universes to her.
“It passes fairly quickly,” she replied. She took a step forward, gently grasping the glass of water to take it from his hand. If he let her she would set it down on the counter next to them. “Bellamy, things aren’t so bad now. Back home, I mean. I think you’d be surprised and… I think you’ll be happier. About Octavia.” She didn’t want to say too much, but she needed to give him a reason to want to gain new memories.
Bellamy had been prepared for this conversation, but not for the direction it almost immediately took. Echo wasn’t unaware by any stretch of the imagination about how torn up Bellamy was over Octavia. And it wasn’t just because of what she’d become, even though that was a huge part of it obviously. Blodreina. God, he wasn’t ever going to be able to forget that. His precious little sister had basically become a monster and he knew it, he knew that part of that was because of the situation they were in but… shit and Madi was gone and even the mention of Octavia’s name sort of made Bellamy go instantly stiff.
He didn’t remove his hand from her hip but his stance… changed. It had been leaving her to, obviously and there was just something so jarring about having returned to his sister being so… so different. It wasn’t just that she was a Grounder, it worked for O - Grounder was what she deserved and rightfully so after what she’d been forced to endure as a child. She had earned, deserved the freedom of the ground and she had the tenacity for it. But how that tenacity had twisted her? That was what he truly couldn’t deal with.
That and having left her. Even if it was for good reason.
“I don’t need to be surprised.” He said, taking a sip from his water. “Unless the rest of Spacekru shows up. That’s one I’d welcome.” It was a clear and unavoidable deflection of the topic of his sister - which was something he didn’t even want to think about on a good day. O wasn’t here so he’d sort of just put it… out of sight out of mind. Like he had not knowing where the hell Madi was back home.
Over the years Echo had learned so much from not only Bellamy but from the others. She had learned to be kind, had learned to laugh and joke even if sometimes she still didn’t quite understand, she had learned how to be polite and pretend to like something when she really did not (like with Monty’s algae). She had become human and not just a warrior. Meanwhile, Octavia had gone from child to warrior to… seemingly heartless dictator. The two women had essentially switched roles. However, gaining these memories allowed Echo insight that she was glad to now have. There was a light at the end of the tunnel and she wanted so badly for Bellamy to be able to see it too.
When his stance changed, even if it was slight, she changed her own with him. Her arms repositioned so that she rested her hands gently on his shoulders. “And maybe we will see them here,” she said quietly, choosing to keep what she knew of Monty and Harper to herself for now. One thing at a time. Besides, in their world death was such a high inevitability that she couldn’t say she was surprised. Maybe Echo had changed into a gentler person but that Grounder warrior spirit would always remain.
“Bellamy,” she said gently, moving her hand to stroke the side of his face. “You deserve to be happy. You deserve it more than anyone.” He had been Spacekru’s accidental leader, the man with all the inspirational speeches who had a way of getting through to people when they were lost. “She changes, for the better. We’re all safe, and you have a lot to do with that. So does she, despite what she may have done to survive.” Maybe it wouldn’t be what turned him around, but Echo needed to give him something promising.
There was no doubt in any part of Bellamy’s mind that Echo was saying this, no doubt that she had come home to him right away and not waited even a moment to bring it up because she thought she was wrong or was anything shy of genuine. Echo wasn’t that sort of person. She may have been a spy. They may have stood on opposite sides of many issues and battles in the past, but Echo wouldn’t have screwed around when it came to his sister. He liked to think she wouldn’t have even done that before everything changed, but he definitely had no doubt that she wasn’t joking now. But somehow that only made Bellamy clench up more. He appreciated it, immensely. She was looking out for him, she knew how much he was torn up about Octavia - even if he wouldn’t say it out loud. It was what made Echo not just a good girlfriend or whatever, but a good partner. She could be relied upon. Whether it was in the solace of their apartment or on a mission or whatever.
Bellamy felt very lucky to have that. He wasn’t sure if at points he’d deserved it, but it was where they were now and he was happy for it. The problem here definitely wasn’t Echo, it was Bellamy. Through and through.
Wetting his lips he sort of quietly cleared his throat, “That’s good.” He answered, almost quietly (at least for him). Talking about his sister just wasn’t something he wanted to do. And what if he didn’t get lucky and get the memories they did? Hadn’t that one girl lost memories? He didn’t like the idea of that. But, ultimately, it was just an excuse for Bellamy to stiffen up and do what he’d been doing when it came to the topic of his sister for… well, years. Close off.
Maybe there had been a time that Echo didn’t give a damn about Octavia and she wouldn’t have thought twice about trying to kill the other woman. Hell, they had each held a grudge against the other from the beginning. However, it had been because of Bellamy that Echo no longer held that torch or had any desire to go after his sister. It was out of respect for the man she loved that she no longer wanted to end Octavia’s life. Sure, there had been times when they returned to the Ground and after discovering how very different Octavia had become that she wouldn’t have hesitated to defend herself if Octavia had come after her.
In fact, Echo had expected Octavia to try to kill her on the spot. Even after proving herself as someone who could be trusted and useful she was still very careful around the other woman. It wasn’t until she witnessed Octavia swear fealty to Madi that Echo felt any kind of kinship to the other woman, less paranoid in her presence. Even so, those were all things she couldn’t tell Bellamy just yet because it needed to be his choice to find out on his own. She had decided that for now she wouldn’t say anything about Monty and Harper because the present conversation was already stressful enough for him.
Echo remained quiet for a moment, watching him before deciding she wouldn’t say anymore about Octavia. At least for now. She remembered how worried she had been about returning to the Ground, absolutely certain that Octavia would kill her or order someone to do it, and how Bellamy comforted her in that moment. He’d made her laugh, even if she didn’t necessarily forget her worries. She smiled gently, “I won’t bring it up again. I just needed you to know.”
Bellamy leaned away, putting his glass down on the little table nearish to the door where they were standing and turned back to Echo. Looking at her for a moment, he half scrunched up his face and looked away - clearly trying to choose his words carefully. Setting up some rule that he didn’t want to know things like that wouldn’t be something he wanted to do and Bellamy new he needed to be delicate here. Echo was doing this out of loyalty, love, all the things that made it precisely the right thing to do (tell him, that was). But also precisely the things that made it sting in Bellamy’s mind. It hurt because he wanted to know but parts of him didn’t really want to risk it. The problem was, he just wasn’t good at this shit when it actually came to himself. Bellamy was way better at leading others than he was actually leading his damn self.
Reaching up he put a hand gently to Echo’s face, leaning in and giving her a fairly chaste kiss on her lips before he pulled back, clearing his throat to choke back a sigh. “Ya, I know.” He said, his voice still quieter than normal as he looked over her face.
A glimmer of a smirk appeared on his features, “You’re too damn smart to tell me if you didn’t think I should know.” At least he could default back to jokes and deflecting. That he was damn good at - not that Echo deserved deflecting, but she’d know why he was doing it. She’d understand that it was because when it came to his sister? There was… just too much there.
But, now Echo had given him options. And that? That he appreciated.
Maybe Bellamy wasn’t entirely open about what this whole situation with Octavia was doing to him, but Echo knew him well enough to see firsthand that it was extremely toxic and unhealthy. She hated to see what it did to him. However, if there was any chance of Bellamy knowing that Octavia would actually change for the better and that she bowed to Madi without question, she was certain it would start him on a path to healing.
Echo smiled gently before laughing. “I’m not going to feed you lies, Bellamy. You know that,” she said quietly. She placed a hand on his and laced her fingers with his before bringing their hands down together. There wasn’t more to say on the matter. Echo knew Bellamy would make his decision one way or another, whatever he believed was best for him. No matter what she would support whatever he chose to do.
