Jemma had noticed immediately that her husband wasn't beside her when she woke that morning. His side of the bed was even cold, which meant he'd been up for a while. Probably had barely slept. This whole thing had been hard on all of them, and they were determined to do what they could to make it easier for them all. But, Fitz always took this sort of project quite seriously. They both did, which is why she was surprised he'd managed to leave without waking her.
Still, she wasn't worried. She knew exactly where her partner was. It wasn't difficult to predict, really. Not for anyone who'd even just met the two of them. Still, she suspected he hadn't had breakfast yet. However much he could think about his stomach at times, he could become quite single-minded when it came to science. This was why she detoured on her way to the lab, to pick up coffee and a selection of pastries. Not the healthiest of breakfasts, she'll admit. But, certainly easier to eat at work than some options.
She paused in the doorway of the lab, to watch her husband at work. It was something she would never tire of, the sight of him working. Even after all the years they'd worked together. As she paused, she noticed his hand shake. His frustration that his body still didn't always work like he wanted it to. She always noticed, of course.
Jemma's eyes softened slightly with concern, as she finally entered the room. Quietly, but aware that her footsteps would still sound on the hard floors, she deposited the coffee and pastries on a nearby desk. She didn't want to startle Fitz, but was also not wanting to disturb his concentration, so she waited until an opportune moment, to slide in next to him and place a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You should have woken me." She chided gently, as she dipped in to kiss him on the cheek in greeting.
