Violet wiped the sweat from her forehead before taking a drink of water. She had missed this, now that the war was won in Atlantis, there wasn’t a pressing need for her to train like she used to. Of course Violet would never wish the outcome to be different, but as much as she still did her best to keep up with training, she didn’t feel that same drive, not until now. As much as she desperately missed the people back home, it felt good to have that drive again. Breathing out heavily as her heartbeat steaded from the intense cardio, she looked over at Rey and grinned. “You have no idea how much I needed that. I’ve always been fascinated by the force, I’ve seen other people use it before back in Atlantis, but I haven’t had much of a chance to see it in person like this. It’s really impressive.” She set her staff to the side, up against the wall. If she was thankful of two things it’d be the fact that Dash was here too and that her staff came with her. Rey grinned back at Violet and nodded. She had others to train with here, but it had been nice to be able to spar with Violet. Working against someone else who was so adept with a staff and who had her own special abilities had been a treat and she found there was something about the other young women that she liked immensely. She didn’t know her well and it wasn’t more than a feeling, but Rey had been learning to trust those. “I’m still learning about it, myself,” Rey admitted. She’d trained with the younger version of Luke when he’d been here, but he’d disappeared, supposedly gone back home, almost a year ago. Rey wasn’t the only Force user in New York these days, with Jacen and Jaina still here, but training with them wasn’t quite the same and doing this with Violet had actually been a very nice challenge. “Are you hungry?” she asked her companion. After the workout they’d just had, she couldn’t help thinking it would be nice to get something to eat. “I know there’s still a lot for me to learn. I’ve always wondered how far my limit is, and I’m sure there is one. I think in terms of my force field and invisibility, I think it can only go so far, but learning this.” She paused to look at her staff. “As well as other fighting styles, I’m learning how to use everything together, which has been really cool.” It would be amazing to be able to use the force and boy did she want to learn how to use a lightsaber. Right on cue, Violet could feel stomach and she laughed. “Starving, apparently.” The mere mention of food seemed to immediately send signals to Violet’s brain that she was ready to eat. “Where do you want to go? I’m not as familiar with everything here, so I’ll leave the destination to you, no pressure.” “I have a few ideas,” Rey said. She couldn’t help but laugh a little at Violet’s stomach, but she could relate to the sensation, too. On Jakku, Rey had nearly always felt hunger. Unkar had never given her a fair priced for the things she found as a scavenger and the meager portions she’d earned had never felt like enough. She’d earned enough to keep from starving, obviously, but it hadn’t been until arriving here that Rey had truly known how it felt to have enough to eat. It was probably her past on Jakku that made the varied foods here so fascinating to her. Sampling the great variety and trying new things had become one of her favorite things to do between shifts and she had done quite a bit of exploring. “There’s so much good food here!” She told her new friend brightly, as she started to lead the way out of where they'd been training. “Great!” Violet paused and then laughed. “Or maybe we should run to the bathroom real quick and wash up? Though at this point, I don’t care if I’m a little sweaty. I can always shower after afterwards.” She was getting hungry enough that it was worth to clean up later. Besides, she didn’t look that bad, she could easily clean up a little in the bathroom and she had body spray on her to mask the smell of a workout. Rey shook her head. “Trust me, where I have in mind, no one is going to notice if we’re a little mussed,” she assured Violet. The first step would be leaving the gym and catching a train into the city. It was a bit of a trip, but she thought it would be worth it. You couldn’t have a proper tour of food in this place without visiting the Sprawl. Violet grinned. “I’ll trust your judgment, and honestly I’m hungry enough that I don’t care.” She recalled the name and nodded. “Definitely sounds familiar, so I think you’re right. I’m almost certain I’ve been there before!” She clapped her hands together. “I’ll let you lead the way otherwise we will likely get lost and as much as I want an adventure, I’d rather have food first!” Rey laughed again and nodded. There were a lot of places in the Sprawl that she enjoyed - in general the place did feel more like home to her than the rest of the city did - but she did have something specific in mind. Of course, the first step was catching a train into the city. |
