I love all the canon details of this, and the characterisation of Voldemort/Tom. From his discussion with the Grey Lady, and his manipulaiton of her:

The fierce emotion he let show on his face was real, though he hoped she would misinterpret it for earnestness and a desire to serve rather than a fervent wish that she were still human so he could use the Imperius Curse and get this farce over with once and for all.

Through the conversation with the snake (a personality in her own right) to his treatment of the old (Muggle) woman - chilling.

It reads like a missing legend from the Wizarding World.

I love it.
